Job Summary
We have an opportunity for enthusiastic nurses to join the Health Advising team providing a sexual health/prevention service to sexual health patients living in Birmingham and Solihull. We are looking for a motivated, conscientious individual experienced in sexual health advising and working within an integrated sexual health service. The candidate must be able to demonstrate post-registration professional knowledge, supplemented by specialist training and experience.
The overarching aim of the Health Advising service is to reduce any harm associated with sex and to empower service users to make positive lifestyle choices.
You will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and work within the Umbrella sites throughout Birmingham & Solihull.
Umbrella is a uniquely comprehensive partnership of local service providers, including community pharmacists, general practitioners, third sector and other partners, NHS Trusts, and Birmingham City Council Services.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will be a role model for junior team members in the delivery of a consistent high standard of nursing practice and will deputise for the Senior Nurse supporting the leadership and management of the department with particular emphasis on quality and clinical standards.
The post holder will provide advice and discuss issues relating to sexually transmitted infections, including results of laboratory tests, HIV infection, and sexual health, with patients both face to face and over the telephone.
1. Provide advice, support and treatment to patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infection(s).
2. Use Partner Notification skills to facilitate the attendance of sexual contacts of patients with sexually transmitted infections.
3. Carry out safeguarding risk assessments and respond to safeguarding concerns.

Person Specification
Qualifications - Essential
* Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC Register.
* Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC.
* STIF Health Advising competency or currently working towards this.
* Mentoring qualification/experience.
* Previous clinical experience of working within a sexual health advising service.
Qualifications - Desirable
* STIF intermediate competency.
Experience - Essential
* Experience of 1:1 risk reduction work with patients i.e., motivational interviewing.
* Experience of working on own and in a team in a health care environment delegating to others within a team / providing supervision to others.
* Demonstrable health advising experience in an Integrated Sexual Health service.
* Demonstrable experience of working in nurse-led sexual health clinics and the ability to work as part of a team or independently.
* Demonstrable experience working with young people and vulnerable groups.
Experience - Desirable
* Willingness to undertake further training relevant to the post.
