Job summary An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Senior Admin Clerk to join our friendly team in Ophthalmology at Boston House. Wigan Eye Unit has 4 Consultant Ophthalmologists along with their medical and practitioner teams. It is a modern and well equipped dedicated eye unit. Wigan Eye Unit is open 6 days a week, with some evening clinics and covers more than one site. This post is 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday. The post holder may be required to work occasional weekends. Main duties of the job The post holder will be part of a multi-disciplinary team providing an effective, high quality Ophthalmology Service. Under the direction of the Admin Manager, be responsible for the day to day running of the Ophthalmology service including Urgent referral clinics, Macular service and Orthoptic service. To ensure a timely service that meets the Trust and national waiting time targets. To work with the Admin Manager to ensure effective waiting times and appropriate clinics are booked to capacity. Assist the Admin manager in Ophthalmology Control Tower. Responsible for dealing with telephone, fax, e-mail enquiries from GP surgeries, optometrists, consultants, and the general public which require a high level of patient confidentiality. Provide a comprehensive administrative support to the whole of the Outpatient service including Urgent referral clinics, Macular service and Orthoptic service. Be responsible for setting up of assessment clinic templates and maintain accurate clinic coding of activity. Follow up action in ensuring follow up appointments after treatment. Operate and update various IT systems and software, used for the screening programme. Deal with internal and external post promptly and appropriately. To assist in the data collection for audit of clinical governance and any national data collection systems. Increase knowledge of IT systems and requirements for the service as they become available. Develop and maintain trust approved departmental databases as they become available. Manage the screening service diaries ensuring optimum use of capacity.
