We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and dynamic Cardiac Nurse to join our Arrhythmia Specialist Nurse team based at Peterborough City Hospital here at NWAFT.
This vacancy is a 12 month fixed term /secondment to cover a team members maternity leave, and provides a fantastic opportunity to broaden your skill set, knowledge and confidence in Cardiac Rhythm Management.
Our team provides an acute arrhythmia service within the trust and also delivers nurse led clinics, and DC Cardioversion lists.
They work closely with the wider Cardiology medical and nursing teams and receive frequent referrals from the Emergency Department, Ambulatory Care Unit and Inpatient wards. They also provide a patient help line for device / arrhythmia related issues.
The role is busy, and challenging therefore, applications will be welcomed from those who have significant cardiology/ critical care experience, and are keen to develop into an autonomous practitioner.
Please note we are only able to accept applicants from those with a live NMC, or UK nursing students waiting PIN. We are unable to support OSCE at this time.
Main duties of the job
1. Acute assessment and management of patients presenting with Arrhythmias.
2. Provide education, advice and information and support to Arrhythmia patients and their families.
3. Facilitate and manage arrhythmia patient journeys.
4. Network, liaise and refer suitable patients to the Electrophysiologist and Arrhythmia Team at Tertiary centres.
5. Deliver Nurse led AF Clinics.
6. Independently manage and deliver DC Cardioversion List (Elective & Urgent), obtain informed consent.
7. Maintain close working relationship with Cardiac Physiology team and facilitate management plans for patients with arrhythmias diagnosed on routine investigations.
8. Work collaboratively with the wider Cardiac Specialist Nurse team and Cath lab team to ensure timely management of arrhythmias.
9. Develop pathways, standards and guidelines for arrhythmia management.
10. ALS provider, support Resuscitation Team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To perform at specialist enhanced practitioner level, facilitating early assessment, supporting diagnosis and prompt treatment of patients presenting to North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust with cardiac arrhythmias to facilitate timely discharge and ensure that management is in line with evidence based guidelines.
The main responsibilities of the role will be related to clinical expertise within Cardiac Rhythm Management with an emphasis on initiating, performing and maintaining standards of clinical excellence.
This will be achieved by self-development, motivation in addition to guiding and supporting others.

Education and Qualifications
* Current First Level Nursing and Midwifery Council Registration
* Evidence of degree level study
* Advanced Life Support
* Post Registration Qualification in Clinical Assessment Skills (or willing to work towards)
* Non-Medical Prescribing module (or willing to work towards)
* Willingness and ability to study at master’s level
* Arrhythmia management module/ British Heart Rhythm Society accreditation (or willing to work towards)
* Recognised teaching certificate
Experience
* Appropriate post registration experience in cardiology/ Relevant experience caring for patients with cardiac arrhythmias/ CIED in a position of responsibility as a band 6
* Advanced ECG interpretation skills
* Experience of teaching and assessing in the clinical area
* Commitment to clinical effectiveness and evidence-based care
* Recent experience of management and development of staff
* Participation in service development and implementation of change
* Experience within nurse led outpatient clinic environment
