Salary: £18,197- £19,134 per year (£45,492 - £47,836 FTE)
Fixed Term Contract – maternity leave cover (7 months, ending May 2025)
Hours: Part Time, 16hrs per week/ 2 days per week

Adarna Ward is our 15-bed rehabilitation service, at Cygnet Hospital Wyke, for men with mental illness and a secondary diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. Individuals can continue along the specialist pathway to Adarna House, a 9-bed step-down service enabling a continued focus on recovery through meaningful activity and engagement in local community initiatives. Our aim is to support service users to live as independently as possible.
Responsible for:
As a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will have a unique opportunity to deliver an evidence-based SLT service to meet the needs of the complex client group within an in-patient setting. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will use expert skills to assess, advise and intervene with the aim of promoting functional communication systems and optimal independence. You will be able to train others, promote good practice and maintain a successful total communication environment. Screening, assessing and managing eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties would also form part of this role
You will be accountable to the Director of Speech and Language Therapy (Healthcare) and the onsite service manager. You would also be responsible for the supervision of an SLT (Band 5 equivalent) providing input to Adarna Ward.

The successful candidate should be/have:
* A registered Speech and Language Therapist with the HCPC (Health Care Professions Council)
* Experienced in the field of adult mental health and/or ASD
* Dysphagia qualification is desirable
* An understanding of SLT process/interventions and can take a “hands on” approach
* Excellent communication and time management skills
* Passionate about student education

Requirements
