Job Summary
The ward clerk plays an integral role on the ward as part of the first face/voice a patient may see/hear on a ward. They are the link between patients, nurses, and consultants in the ward area.
Main Duties of the Job
The candidate's main duties are to:
1. Prep notes for patients attending for theatre on a daily basis and forward plan notes for the coming weeks.
2. Take phone calls.
3. Make appointments.
4. Complete occasional audits.
5. Store ordering.
6. Have excellent IT skills.
7. Communicate with other wards and departments regarding patient information.
8. Scan notes.
9. Have good organisational skills.

Job Description
A ward clerk provides administrative support to clinical staff on the ward area. This includes answering the phone, updating confidential patient records, and ensuring that the nursing staff have up-to-date patient information.
You will have lots of contact with both nursing staff, patients, and patients' families. You may be asked to contact patients over the phone to update them on appointments or inform them of family members being discharged from the hospital.
You will predominantly work on the elective orthopaedic ward, where excellent communication and IT skills are required.

Qualifications Essential
* Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent experience.
Desirable
* Customer service / NVQ level 2 in admin or equivalent.
Experience Essential
* Customer service experience or office duties.
Desirable
* Experience in clerical work within healthcare.
Special Skills and Knowledge Essential
* IT / computer skills / ability to work within a team.
Desirable
* Administrative skills / knowledge of hospital administrative processes and practices.
