Specialist Nurse: Sickle Cell Disease Thalassaemia and Rare Anaemias
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
We are looking for a flexible, motivated, and dynamic nurse to join our small, friendly, creative and forward-thinking Haemoglobinopathy team. The newly created vacancy has arisen due to our expanding patient numbers and service needs. Our well-established Thames Valley Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Network cares for approximately 600 adults and children with Sickle cell disease, Thalassaemia, and other Rare Anaemias. The network covers Oxford, Milton Keynes, Swindon, Wexham Park, Reading, and Frimley Health hospitals.
Main duties of the job
This is a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic, motivated nurse to develop the skills to work flexibly with both adult and paediatric services across the network. You will be part of our whole life service and will be an integral team member. As a key point of contact for a defined caseload, you will provide support, education, and information to patients and families. In addition, you will support the Education Lead nurse to identify, support, and deliver education to stakeholders within our HCC region.
To be our successful candidate, you will have a creative, caring, and compassionate nature, a strong interest in teaching patients and staff, superb interpersonal skills, and the resilience to work in a developing environment. Your excellent communication skills will enable you to engage with clinical staff, patients, and their families in decision-making and self-care, supporting them in managing their health care needs. While the role is Oxford-based, depending on where you live, we may be able to allocate local hospitals close to your home.
Specific experience within this specialty is not essential as we will ensure you have the orientation, support, education, and training required to develop within this role.
Job responsibilities
Our network works to a whole of life approach to care, so our paediatric and adult teams are closely linked, with joint quality and service development organization. The specialist nurses work closely as a team and have many joint projects, such as transition, education, and service development. We work closely with our adult and paediatric specialist nurses in Milton Keynes, as well as community and primary care services across the region. The teams have monthly MDTs, local clinics, and outreach clinics to the network hospitals.
