DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The appointee will be expected to develop a significant interest in colorectal and lymphoma oncology delivering systemic therapy. The post holder will: Provide overarching care and responsibility for medical oncology inpatients and outpatients. Develop, lead and deliver a high-quality clinical service to improve clinical outcomes. Support consultant colleagues, junior doctors and nursing staff and liaise closely with senior medical colleagues from other specialties to provide supportive care to unwell patients (acute oncology, CCU, neurology, respiratory etc). Conform to GMCs guidelines on Good Medical Practice and Good Clinical Practice for Research. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings for patient selection, management decisions and operational logistics (treatment scheduling, risk assessment, etc). Deliver teaching and training to medical and nursing staff, including the option to act as educational supervisor for postgraduate doctors in training. Participate in CPD activities in line with personal and Trust policy. Actively participate in the annual cycle of appraisal and job planning and its associated regulations. Undertake mandatory training as directed. Assist in enhancing the international standing and profile of the Department of Medical Oncology. Forge relations with the academic sector, the public sector, industry, and the community compatible with the Trusts external affairs agenda. The remainder of the appointees professional time will be deployed flexibly on other clinical duties, administration, teaching, research, clinical audit etc. Detailed elements of the job plan arrangements will be agreed with the successful applicant when in post. Colorectal The post holder will be one of seven Medical Oncology Consultants specialising in Lower GI cancer who have on average 105 new patient referrals and 650 Follow up appointments per consultant per year and will be an active member of the Bolton Colorectal Cancer MDT. Medical oncology consultants are as follows: Dr Mike Braun (Lead)Dr S MullamithaDr K MartiDr K KamposiorasDr J HasanDr R Broadbent The lower Gi team is also supported by five clinical nurse specialists and two nurse clinicians, 2 advanced clinical practitioners, a trainee advanced clinical practitioner and a care-coordinator.The post holder will be reporting to the disease group lead and Clinical Director with additional support from the Service Manager for Networked services. There is currently collaborative working within both the Lower GI medical and clinical oncology research teams which the successful applicant will be expected to participate in. The group meet regularly to discuss clinical care and research objectives, team structure and to maintain effective team working. The post holder will be expected to take on leadership, training and management roles as an active member of the Medical Oncology department. Examples include: being a Chair of a clinial committee, Clinical Lead of a clinical pathway or clinical representative at Trust meetings. Lymphoma The post holder will be one of four medical oncology consultants specialising in Lymphoma who have on average 65 new patient referrals and 670 follow up appointments per year per consultant. Medical oncology consultants are as follows: Dr Kim Linton (lead)Professor John RadfordDr Rachel BroadbentDr Elizabeth Phillips The lymphoma team is also supported by one specialty Doctor, one clinical research fellow, four clinical nurse specialists, one nurse clinician and a physician associate. The post holder will be reporting to the disease group lead and Clinical Director with additional support from the Service Manager for Networked services.Participate in a 1 in 4 attending consultant rota within the lymphoma team. When on attending duties, they will be expected to provide timely expert input to guide the management of newly admitted patients, daily senior oversight of inpatient management and a weekly consultant ward round of lymphoma inpatients at The Christie. There is no out of hours cover required as part of this attending rota. Develop, lead and deliver early and late phase clinical trials of novel therapies and advanced cellular therapy medicinal products to patients with lymphoma. Contribute to the Experimental Cancer Medicine Team and Department of Medical Oncology strategy documents. The post holder will have access to office accommodation with computer, intranet and internet and secretarial support. There is provision for both flexible working and working from home where applicable to the appointees timetable.
