Join us as a Legal Risk and Controls AVP at Barclays where you will undertake various tasks relating to Legal’s role in controls, controls governance, management of Legal Risk, and other risks applicable to the Legal Function. You will be part of a team that supports the Head of Legal, Controls and Controls Governance, as the primary Legal partner to the Chief Controls Office. The team has primary responsibility for embedment and ongoing development of the new accountabilities of the Legal Function in relation to controls, as set out in the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF). Key skills required for this role include: Degree or equivalent Risk and controls experience. Confident engaging stakeholders, good communication skills and proven ability to collaborate effectively. Experience working within financial services industry. Other highly valued skills include: Experience working in or with a legal function (but no legal qualifications required). Strong analytical skills and high level of attention to detail. Focus on delivery, working to high standards of performance with ability to juggle tasks, prioritise, and work under pressure, delivering to tight deadlines and multiple demands. This role will be based in Glasgow. Purpose of the role To design, develop and consult on the bank’s internal controls framework and supporting policies and standards across the organisation, ensuring it is robust, effective, and aligned to the bank’s overall strategy and risk appetite. Accountabilities Identification and analysis of emerging and evolving risks across functions to understand their potential impact, and likelihood. Communication of the purpose, structure, and importance of the control framework to all relevant stakeholders, including senior management and audit. Support to the development and implementation of the banks internal controls framework and principles tailored to the banks specific needs and risk profile including design, monitoring, and reporting initiatives. Monitoring and maintenance of the controls frameworks, to ensure compliance and adjust and update as internal and external requirements change. Embedment of the control framework across the bank through cross collaboration, training sessions and awareness campaigns which fosters a culture of knowledge sharing and improvement in risk management and the importance of internal control effectiveness. Assistant Vice President Expectations Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues. Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda. Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
