Ranger - Wadebridge Summary As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people. It’s all about being outside and getting your hands dirty, delivering vitally important nature conservation and public access work. You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call. What it's like to work here From Holywell near Newquay to North of Bude, the North Cornwall team of staff and volunteers delivers wonderful land, buildings, historic and wildlife conservation as well as high quality access to the countryside. A can-do attitude and positive working with our sister teams looking after our let estate, shops, caf s and holiday cottages in North Cornwall creates a one team approach. This is an opportunity to contribute to the delivery of our ambitions for access and nature in the western part of the portfolio, 1200 hectares of coast and countryside between Tintagel and Holywell. There’s the craggy coastline around Tintagel paired with its slate quarrying heritage. The headlands of Pentire, Trevose and Kelsey Head with nature friendly farming at its heart. Honeypot visitor locations at Carnewas above Bedruthan Steps as well as the sandy beaches of Crantock and Holywell. All linked by the South West Coast Path, giving visitors amazing access to nature and the outdoors. Based on Pentire Head near Polzeath, it’s a privilege and challenge for the ranger team looking after some of the most beautiful and busy stretches of the North Cornish coast. Shaped by the Atlantic weather, much of our land comprises cliffs, beaches, maritime grasslands and open farmland. There are some special areas of woodland too, reedbeds and scrub. Most of the land is rich in natural habitats and ancient monuments resulting in numerous wildlife and archaeological designations. You'll join a dedicated and ambitious team. Reporting to the Area Ranger you'll work closely with the other Rangers in North Cornwall, the Welcome Team as well as our stakeholders and partners including our tenant farmers. What you'll be doing You’ll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery as well as maintaining high quality footpaths and other access routes. You’ll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to our volunteers and visitors to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. You’ll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard.
