Applications are invited for a 12 month full-time fixed term contract Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist. You will join the existing team of consultants providing routine elective and emergency cover across both obstetrics and gynaecology. You will work with our Consultant Body to develop and deliver an outstanding service for our patients.
The post holder will be expected to participate in the day to day running of Obstetrics and Gynaecology services (including theatres), on-calls and hot weeks.
The post attracts 8 PAs.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an outstanding consultant to join our team and help lead our service towards excellence. This is a one-year fixed-term position, with the possibility of extension and conversion to a permanent role, contingent upon successful service improvements and a well demonstrated leadership development. We aim to enhance our response to national maternity reports and develop a culture of safe and effective care.
The post holder will be expected to take part in the on-call rota (Combined Obstetrics & Gynaecology on-calls), which is currently 1:13 (subject to change to 1/14). This post is a 50% Job share of the total 1:13 on-calls. The consultant is expected to be resident on site until 21:30 (Mon-Fri) and 8:30 - 21:00 (weekends) then available for immediate return to site within less than 30 minutes. All on-call non-residential is paid at a Band A.
The post holder will be expected to take part in the daily Gyn. Emergency rota. The consultant is expected to be on site between 8:30 - 17:30 and to be available for emergency theatre as required during these times. You will also lead a Junior Doctor Team.
There is a Gynaecology-only on-call cover for Obstetric consultants operates on a 1:7 rota. This includes onsite availability from 17:30 to 20:30, followed by offsite cover from 20:30 to 08:30.

Qualifications
Essential
* Full GMC registration
* Relevant CCT or equivalent (to be confirmed by GMC)
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC.
Desirable
* Higher degree (PhD or Master).
Management
Essential
* Experience in Clinical Risk Management and Audit.
* Experience of establishing guidelines & protocols.
Clinical Experience
Essential
* Clinical training and experience in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT.
Desirable
* Experience of laparoscopic surgery.
Teaching and Research
Essential
* Experience of teaching & supervising junior medical staff.
