About Your Opportunity We have a fantastic opportunity in the GI Underwriting team as Head of Motor Underwriting. The Head of Motor Underwriting will provide an expert technical underwriting service, controlling the acceptance and rating of risk, within agreed authorities, taking responsibility for technical leadership, portfolio management, interpretation and practical implementation. Your focus: Full technical responsibility for risk acceptance criteria and terms applied to new and existing customers. Actively manage our portfolio to hit plan, managing quotability, risk mix and other key indicators. To play a key role in the assessment of new underwriters, both at recruitment stage and initial sign off stage and the active development of the existing team. To grant individual underwriting authority, and ensure operation within authority at both individual and smart circle level. To steer projects and strategic activity, assessing impact on our existing underwriting capability and assisting with practical implementation. To attend industry events to keep abreast of underwriting issues and developments Take on a leading role in representing underwriting across the business, wider insurance industry and to customer via media channels and public speaking engagements Working with group on strategic initiatives in the your focus section. Manage our ongoing value assessments and consumer duty duties About You You will have strong understanding of General Insurance with knowledge of Personal lines or commercial insurance desirable. You will have extensive experience underwriting and/or portfolio management with knowledge and experience of underwriting rules development, product development and direct trading environments as well as project management experience. You will have industry knowledge and experience of taking part in wider industry discussions You will have excellent written or verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex or technical information in a simple way and when required the ability to Influence, negotiation. You will be able manage relationships with stakeholders and external customers driving process improvements. You will have experience of leadership and management of people with the willingness to lead, motivate and inspire others to achieve their full potential. Ways of Working We are delighted to confirm that we are now a hybrid working business. Our office with flex model means that you will have the opportunity to work from home as well as the office. As a hybrid worker you will be in the office between 2 and 16 days per month depending on individual and business need. This will be discussed at interview stage.
