About the apprenticeship
Duties
The duties of an Electric Vehicle Service Technician may include:
- Marking out and measuring, using basic hand tools and equipment
- Service and inspection work, covering the whole vehicle to appraise, maintain and repair systems
- Carrying out regular maintenance of customer's vehicles to ensure that they stay reliable and safe
- Working with vehicle body materials and units
- Engine mechanical work covered in service and repair procedures
- Cooling systems, lubrication, air and exhaust work
- Repair and diagnosis of Ignition petrol/diesel fuel systems
- Working on vehicle braking systems to assess the condition and carry out repairs to ensure vehicles are safe
- Checking and repairing vehicle suspension and steering systems, including wheels and tyres.
- Checking and diagnosing vehicle charging and starter systems, including all electrical auxiliaries and lighting
- Carrying out work on clutches, manual/auto gearboxes, drivelines
- Work with High Voltage vehicle systems to service and diagnose faults (after formal HV training is completed)
- Carry out vehicle charging of high voltage vehicles before the vehicle is passed back to the customer
