Job Description
We are looking for an experienced and strategic leader to oversee our UK Onshore Wind Development portfolio. As the Manager of UK Onshore Wind Development, you will have full accountability for leading the development team and driving a robust pipeline of onshore projects across Scotland, England, and Wales—from project origination and permitting through project procurement and optimisation to investment decisions.
In this role, you’ll play a pivotal part in Vattenfall’s commitment to renewable energy and lead the expansion of one of our most strategic growth markets. The UK onshore sector is essential to Vattenfall’s long-term vision and growth, and we seek a professional with the expertise to navigate complex regulatory landscapes, manage high-stakes projects, and lead a talented team to deliver impactful results.
Key Responsibilities
You own the development strategy for our UK onshore pipeline, establishing a clear and competitive approach to sourcing and developing future projects. You will ensure the business is positioned to maximise value, using a strategic framework that anticipates both market opportunities and challenges.
As project sponsor, you will hold commercial and financial accountability for all onshore wind projects in the UK, overseeing their success from inception to outcome.
In addition to organic project growth, you’ll be actively involved in partnering, mergers and acquisitions, identifying and assessing opportunities to strengthen our project portfolio. As a senior representative of Vattenfall’s UK Onshore Wind business, you will represent Vattenfall on industry bodies across the UK and will often be the face and voice of Vattenfall’s interests in, and thoughts of, the UK market.
A strong cross-functional collaboration will be crucial. You will work closely with other teams across Sweden, the Netherlands, and Germany, facilitating best practice sharing and promoting effective, streamlined ways of working. You’ll also coordinate with our Solar & Batteries business when applicable, maximising opportunities for integrated project development.
Leading a team of approximately 15 professionals, you will manage Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Stakeholder Managers, and Coordinators. Your leadership will include recruitment, team growth, and cultivating a collaborative, high-performance culture.
Location
The location of this position is in the UK, at any of Vattenfall’s current main offices with onshore wind development (Hexham, Penzance, London, Edinbrough)). Regular business trips are required, both within the UK and internationally.
Qualifications
Your profile / who are you?
We’re seeking an inspiring leader with a strong track record in managing teams through change. As Vattenfall and the onshore wind industry rapidly transform, you’ll balance strategic vision, commercial insight, and hands-on execution. With a focus on growth and a people-first approach, you’ll help our team thrive in this dynamic environment.
Next to this you bring a:
* Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience as a leader in renewable energy, preferably onshore wind development and preferably within an international organisation;
* Strong drive and motivation and the ability to focus on both people and business;
* Strong commercial mindset and seek improvements in everything you do;
* Proficient in communicating and influencing, with internal and external stakeholders;
* Proven skills in dealing with strategic, highly complex issues and negotiations;
* Strong health and safety values.
The Head of Onshore Development UK reports to the Director of Development Onshore in BA Wind. You will become a member of the Development Onshore Management Team.
