1. Provision of highly specialist psychological assessments of clients referred based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care.
2. Formulating and implementing plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of referred clients, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client's problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
3. Implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, adjusting and refining psychological formulations as required.
4. Evaluating and making decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
5. Exercising autonomous professional responsibility, within the context of multidisciplinary team working, for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients.
6. Consulting, advising, and/or supervising colleagues from other disciplines on the psychological formulation and management of patients with mental health problems, particularly in areas of specialist knowledge.
7. Contributing directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings and agencies serving the client group.
8. Implementing case management within the framework of the Care Programme Approach if appropriate, including fulfilling the role of care co-ordinator if appropriate, initiating planning and review of care plans involving clients, carers, and others involved in the care package, in this process.
9. Assessing, monitoring, and managing clinical risk in order to minimise this risk to patients, other people, and oneself, and providing advice on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management.
10. Communicating orally and in writing, in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients, to referrers and others involved in the clients care on a need to know basis.
11. Developing and maintaining links and liaison with officers and staff of Social Services, midwifery, Obstetricians, General Practitioners and other Health Care Workers.
12. Attending clinical meetings, case reviews, and case conferences as appropriate.
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Good Honours degree in Psychology giving eligibility for Graduate membership of the BPS
2. Post-graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or those in lateral transfer) as accredited by the B.P.S., and giving eligibility for membership of Health Care Professions Council HCPC
3. The post holder must be registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC.
Desirable criteria

Experience
Essential criteria
1. Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the Health Professions Council
2. Experience of working with women and their families who have a range of complex mental health difficulties
3. Experience of risk assessment and risk management which inform clinically competent assessments including mental state, risk and the development of a formulation of difficulties/problems
4. Experience of MDT work and effectively working within other disciplines.
5. Experience of providing evidence-based interventions for patients of the service
6. Experience of working systemically within a mental health setting and experience of multi-disciplinary and agency working including health and social care
7. Experience of providing clinical supervision in relation to complex cases to junior staff and peers.
Desirable criteria
1. Experience of working within an inpatient mental health setting
2. Experience of working within a perinatal inpatient setting
3. Experience of audit, research and analytical skills
Knowledge
Essential criteria
1. Understanding and working knowledge of mental health.
2. Knowledge of current Mental Health policy and Legislation
3. Knowledge and experience of Safeguarding Adults and Children
4. Working knowledge and experience of the provision of therapeutic approaches and interventions with women suffering from a severe mental illness
5. Experience of facilitating group work
6. Specialist assessment and therapeutic skills with a broad range of adult mental health problems.
7. Awareness of, and ability to assess and manage risk
8. Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology
Desirable criteria
1. Understanding and working knowledge of perinatal mental health.
2. Knowledge of policy drivers for perinatal mental health

1. Ability to make judgements in complex clinical situations through assessment, analysis and interpretation of information and deciding on appropriate action from a range of options
2. Specialist and sound assessment skills including risk assessment and management.
3. Ability to manage complex cases, analyse complex information and offer sound clinical guidance advise and make effective decisions
4. Ability to work within the MDT and to be an integral part of this
5. Ability to provide consultation to other non-psychology colleagues, and teaching and training skills
6. Highly level of verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
7. Good IT skills.
Desirable criteria
1. Assessment and therapeutic skills related to complex, severe and enduring mental health concerns
2. Assessment and therapeutic skills related to severe mental illness in the perinatal period.
