Position: Band 6 Biomedical Scientist Stem Cell Banding: 6 Location: Belfast Rate: £24.00 – £28.00 per hour Working hours: Core hours 08:00AM – 18:00PM Duration: On going Start date: ASAP The Biomedical Science team at Pulse is currently recruiting a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist in Stem Cell to work in a busy hospital in Belfast. We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist who can make a real difference in supporting the laboratory's service. This will be a temporary contract with a rate of £24.00 – £28.00 per hour. What will you be doing in this Biomedical Scientist role? You will maintain an up-to-date knowledge of Haematology/Blood Transfusion and Stem Cell Biology, including current working practices. You will carry out appropriate procedures, including those requiring the exercise of independent judgment and initiative with minimal supervision. You will assist in research projects where necessary and be involved in the development of new procedures and techniques. You will assist in the sampling, processing, and cryopreservation of stem cell products. You will work in a clean-room environment to process stem cells for patient transplant. You will use interpretive skills to determine clinically significant laboratory results and take action. You will ensure safe practice when using liquid nitrogen, following Health and Safety guidelines. You will follow and implement standards as required by the appropriate regulatory bodies such as JACIE and HTA. You will assist during the infusion of stem cell transplants on the ward, including thawing of the product. You will efficiently manage patients’ clinical material and maintain a safe system of storage. You will manage the safe disposal of transplant material in a timely manner to meet regulatory requirements. You will recognize and comply with safety regulations, guidelines, and policy. You will carry out any other duties not specified above, but which might be reasonably expected of a Biomedical Scientist Band 6. The role will be mainly working in the cleanroom processing stem cell harvests and then cryopreservation of them. Essential Requirements: Must continue to meet the standards of proficiency as specified by the HCPC to maintain registration as a Biomedical Scie Participate in Continuous Professional Development in line with KSF and work towards gaining further knowledge through certificate level training and short cours This will be done through Personal Contribution Plan & Annual Staff Development review.
