JOB DESCRIPTION
Data Analyst
MAIN PURPOSE
This post involves applying analytical & statistical methods to a range of public health data to support routine and ad hoc analytical projects and tasks. You will be required to plan, manage and deliver on a range of assigned projects requiring analytic input, including negotiating and agreeing the most appropriate data output, initiating and planning workloads and setting delivery timescales. The successful candidate will be responding to regular and ad hoc public health intelligence requests and offering specialist advice and/or training on the appropriate use of this information.
The post holder will be supporting the translation and dissemination of public health intelligence outputs through awareness raising and signposting. You will be expected to use a variety of methods including written briefings and oral presentations to communicate the implications of public health analytical outputs for action to improve population health in the communities and areas we serve.
* Running and maintaining regular reporting output with a focus on improving data quality within the organisation.
* To apply analytical techniques to interpret information from a variety of different sources for operational, strategic and performance management purposes.
* To create analytical products to support decision making and to enable the organisation to meet statutory and legislative data requirements.
* Organise, develop and deliver training to employees for our IT systems.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
OPERATIONAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To ensure all data whether on paper or electronically is collated and recorded accurately.
2. To support decision making through interpretation of information requests which may be business critical and/or confidential.
3. Interpret information, highlighting trends and/or inconsistencies and undertake ad hoc data analysis to investigate any issues highlighted.
4. Take responsibility for the timely delivery of outputs for existing reporting requirements as part of the organisation’s statutory reporting requirements.
5. Manipulate and interpret complex data to produce professional reports which are appropriate for formal presentation to clinicians and managers.
6. Design, develop and implement simple solutions to enable production of complex routine reports, thereby facilitating a robust, proactive reporting suite of operational and performance information.
7. Produce and analyse data quality monitoring reports to ensure that standards are maintained.
8. Ensure that operating policies and procedures are documented and maintained for the routine production of information and returns.
9. Ensure that all work is fully validated and quality assured prior to distribution to the end user.
10. Be able to use initiative and work both independently and collaboratively, managing personal workload and conflicting priorities.
11. Able to work for sustained periods of time in front of a computer.
INFORMATION AND REPORTING
1. Extract and interrogate data from multiple sources using, but not limited to Microsoft Excel, SQL & Power BI.
2. To support decision making through interpretation of information requests which may be business critical and/or confidential.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
1. SKILLS & ABILITIES
o Excellent communication skills, with experience of articulating complex issues in an understandable way.
o Assist with training non-analytical staff to understand reporting results.
o Assist with developing data capture and data collection systems.
o Able to advise on best practices with regards to processing and presenting data.
o Detail oriented and able to identify anomalies in data and rectify accordingly.
o Able to prioritise own workload and deliver work to agreed timescales.
o Ability to use own initiative and work under pressure with good time management skills.
o Able to work as part of a team and demonstrate good interpersonal skills to form and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
o Able to work for sustained periods of time in front of a computer screen.
2. KNOWLEDGE
o Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel including the creation of complex queries and dashboards.
o SQL and BI dashboards.
o Understand statistical techniques and processes for data manipulation.
3. EXPERIENCE
o Experience of processing and analysing large volumes of data through the use of analytical techniques and products.
o Knowledge of a range of statistical techniques.
o Proven experience of developing and writing health needs assessments, health equity audit and health impact assessments.
o Experience of using appropriate analytical software (e.g. Excel, SPSS etc).
o Experience of working with managers and staff to define management information needs.
o Experience of delivering training.
4. QUALIFICATIONS
o Educated to degree level in a numerate subject/public health.
o Desirable: supplemented by additional training and experience, equivalent to post-graduate diploma level.
5. SPECIAL CONDITIONS
* Full UK Driving licence with access to a ‘business insured’ car for travel for business.
* This post involves working with vulnerable adults and as such the post holder will be required to apply for a disclosure of criminal records at an enhanced level (DBS).
