We are looking for an Associate to join the Waste Operations, Logistics, and Flows team in support of developing innovative client solutions that foster the circular economy in the built environment.
Buro Happold's Waste, Operations, Logistics and Flows team is comprised of a diverse group of waste and environmental consultants who work with clients to develop bespoke solutions for waste management and goods flows. Our team comes from a range of backgrounds, including environmental studies, engineering, and operations. Collectively the team has worked on over 260 buildings and cities projects across 40 different countries. A typical day includes optimising architectural designs to make the segregation, storage, and movement of goods and waste materials as efficient, resilient, and environmentally positive as possible.
We are looking for an individual to join our team in one of our central city UK offices. The role of Associate will include working with team members to review waste and logistics strategies, waste generation calculations, back of house route planning, waste and goods storage and transport methods and waste treatment options. The role will require someone who is capable of bringing their extensive knowledge and understanding of the resources and waste management industry to our team, demonstrating an ability to analyse and evaluate complex problems, develop customized solutions for our clients, and integrate the latest industry standards and guidance into our work.
As a leader on the team, you will ensure projects are properly reviewed, stay on schedule, meet contractual deliverables, and work within agreed budgets. As an Associate you will provide specialist waste and logistics consultancy advice to clients, architects, collaborators, and key stakeholders involved on projects.
In addition, an integral part of our work involves establishing and maintaining strong internal and external relationships which contribute to winning future work and expanding current service offers. Close collaboration with internal teams such as People Movement, Transport and Mobility, Infrastructure and Sustainability will evolve the quality of our work, align with long term strategic goals across the company, and will elevate our current and future service offerings.

We are looking for candidates to demonstrate the following:
Responsibilities:
1. Provide guidance to senior consultants, consultants, and graduate consultants in development of waste and logistics strategies with architects and engineering design teams for buildings and cities;
2. Produce and review reports, presentations, models, drawings as required to an excellent technical standard with a high level of detail and accuracy;
3. Review and ensure compliance to national and local policies and best practices;
4. Review waste and goods generation forecasting;
5. Review and appraise solutions for the storage and transportation of goods and waste;
6. Review spatial planning of waste and goods facilities to building and city scales, in coordination with consultants and architects;
7. Explore innovative technologies and solutions for waste and goods management;
8. Technical report writing and bid preparation;
9. Mentoring junior members of the team;
10. Leading and managing select projects both technically and commercially;
11. Collaborate across other disciplines throughout the organisation to contribute towards future work winning and development of new service offers;
12. Lead the development and improvement of team processes and workload.
Qualifications:
1. Academic background in waste management, engineering, logistics, environmental science, or equivalent field;
2. Chartered membership in applicable field;
3. Extensive experience in waste management, masterplanning, or related fields;
4. Passion for circular economy.
