General Responsibilities
As a senior employee of the Trust the post-holder will work in close co-operation with, and support, other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust’s patients.
· So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties, the post holder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Service.
· The post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to be available for such irregular commitments outside normal duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.
· Research-opportunities may be provided for research under the guidance of Consultants.
· The post holder will be encouraged to undertake skill-based courses as appropriate.
· The post holder will be expected to work together as a team within the Women and Children’s Group,
· To ensure the maintenance of any relevant accreditation by taking part in appropriate continuing professional medical education.
· To take part in appropriate multidisciplinary training in areas appropriate to their field.
· To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust’s procedures and operating policies
· To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust’s and Operational Group’s services plans
Specific Responsibilities of this Post
This post holder essentially covers Acute Paediatric unit and Neonatal unit at a Middle grade level. The post holder is responsible for the following
• Managing children admitted to the Paediatric ward under supervision of a Consultant.
• Supervising and supporting Tier 1 doctors and Nurse practitioners in patient care in children’s ward and assessment unit .
• Managing babies on the Neonatal unit under supervision of consultant
• Supervision and supporting Tier 1 doctors and Nurse practitioners in patient care for babies on the neonatal unit and maternity unit.
• Attending high risk deliveries on the maternity unit
• Attending resuscitation calls in A&E
• Seeing patients referred to the Paediatric Assessment unit and
• Providing support and advice to A &E doctors, General Practitioners
• Attending and seeing patients in outpatient clinic independently under supervision of a consultant
• Participate in the on call rota with other middle grades

The post would suit a good team player dedicated to high quality patient care. The opportunity exists to work in a non-hierarchical setting and offer a wide range of Paediatric duties in this busy district general hospital. The ability to match a personal special interest with service requirements will be essential. As will the commitment to a high quality service in terms of clinical care, communication and team dynamics.
