JOB DESCRIPTION – FAMILY CARER SUPPORT WORKER Post Title: Family Carer Support Worker Hours: Full Time – 35 hours per week Salary: £28,430.59 per annum Contract: Fixed term for three years (subject to funding) Annual Leave: 20 days plus 12 public holidays Responsible to: General Manager Location: Based at Fife Carers Centre, 157 Commercial Street, Kirkcaldy, KY1 2NS, with travel throughout Fife for home visits, community-based support, and working from home. JOB PURPOSE: The Family Carer Support Worker is a new role within Fife Carers Centre, focusing on providing targeted support to families at crisis point or at risk of breakdown in their caring relationships, as well as those caring for more than one person. The role aims to prevent burnout, reduce the risk of family breakdown, and improve the financial stability of families facing the economic pressures of caring. Support will be offered for a limited period of time, with interventions designed to empower carers, stabilise their situation, and enable them to move forward with increased resilience and confidence. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct Support to Families: Provide one-on-one support to family carers, addressing their emotional and practical needs. Lead group sessions focusing on coping strategies, self-care, and peer support. Offer practical advice on balancing caring responsibilities, including time management and stress reduction techniques. Emotional and Practical Assistance: Deliver emotional support to carers to help them manage the psychological demands of their roles. Provide resources and guidance on self-care practices and accessing community services that can alleviate the caregiving burden. Financial Support and Guidance: Assist carers in accessing benefits, grants, and other financial resources to reduce poverty and improve economic stability. Offer support with benefit applications, including form filling and benefit checks. Crisis Intervention: Provide intensive support to families at crisis point or at risk of breakdown, offering both practical and emotional interventions to stabilise their situations. Develop tailored support plans to address the specific needs of families with multiple caring responsibilities. Outreach and Community Engagement: Conduct regular home visits and provide community-based support across Fife. Engage in virtual check-ins to ensure ongoing support for carers unable to attend in-person sessions. Build networks and good working relationships with GP practices, local resources, schools and other agency representatives. Advocacy and Representation: Assist carers in presenting their views to appropriate planning authorities and decision-makers. Advocate on behalf of carers where necessary to ensure they receive the support and services they need. Monitoring and Reporting: Record and monitor information from carers to keep Fife Carers Centre’s data up to date. Contribute to the continuous development of quality standards and implement appropriate quality action plans. Plan, evaluate, and measure the impact of carers' groups and workshops, ensuring they are delivered within budget. Service Promotion: Promote the work of Fife Carers Centre through training, presentations, and networking. Develop links with carers, carers groups, and appropriate voluntary, statutory, and private agencies. The Family Carer Support Worker will be directly employed by Fife Carers Centre and supervised by our experienced management team. This role will play a vital part in ensuring that family carers across Fife receive the necessary support to navigate their caring roles, reduce financial hardship, and improve their overall well-being. This position is a new position within the organisation and as such will be subject to regular review and will evolve to fit the requirements of the service. This appointment is subject to a six-month probationary period.
