Job Purpose:
Medway Council understands and recognises the need to have its own high-quality in-house Children’s residential provision. As such, we are opening a new children’s home, renovated to the highest possible standards. This is a fantastic opportunity to join Medway Council and collaborate in building this new service. You will have all the support and infrastructure that comes with being part of Medway Council.
Under the general guidance of the relevant Service Manager and within the framework of current legislation, you will undertake responsibilities as the Registered Manager of the home (as defined by the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015) and provide the motivation, leadership, and management necessary to ensure high-quality residential care for children.
You will be an experienced manager ready to shape the ethos and principles in the home based on your experience and awareness. You will be open to new ideas and creative solutions to the complexities presented by children.
Develop a culture within the home where children are central to the decision-making process, where their views are encouraged, and their wishes and feelings are always considered.
Promote a therapeutic model of working with children, inspired by your strengths, awareness, and understanding. This will inspire the team and likely include attachment, understanding trauma, developing relationships, and seeking to understand what a child’s behaviour is communicating.
To develop each child’s resilience, preparing them for their next steps.
Create an environment where children can share their experiences, reflecting on how their experiences have influenced and affected them, allowing them to safely express themselves while being assured they will continue to be cared for and loved.
Encourage children to make measurable progress in attaining their individual academic potential. Create an ambitious environment for the children and prioritise keeping them in their current school placement.
Create a culture where families and friends are made welcome at the home, enhancing opportunities to nurture and strengthen relationships.
Build a secure base within the home that allows children who have left to maintain relationships with staff by offering planned regular opportunities to meet and work with them, allowing these relationships to thrive and resemble those found in a family home.
Main Duties:
Overall responsibility for the implementation and compliance of all relevant legislation (i.e., Children Act 1989, Health and Safety Act 1974, Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Care Standards Act 2000), Departmental policies and procedures (i.e., Integrated Equalities Policy) as well as other available ‘good practice’ guidance, ensuring these are understood and adhered to by staff.
Actively promote the home's ethos, ensuring that the home and the services it provides are well known and respected.
Be mindful of changes in the requirements of provision for placements and evolve to meet those needs effectively.
Manage the home to the highest professional standards and within the agreed budget.
Consistently ensure that the safety and well-being of each child is at the heart of everyday practice in the home.
Aim to exceed the quality standards for children’s homes.
Maintain occupancy for up to six children (5 in the main home and one in the annex).
Establish excellent working relationships with professionals with a common interest in the child.
Behave in a manner that reflects and is complimentary to the ideals, goals, and expectations of Medway Council.
Ensure that the staff team understands their roles, responsibilities, and expectations of Medway Council.
