We are excited to be recruiting for a Senior Aquaculture & Fisheries Manager within our Ethics & Sustainability team. The successful candidate will play a critical part in the acceleration and integration of sustainability plans within the Waitrose business. You will lead the development of strategic plans for the responsible sourcing of fish, and the delivery of relevant parts of our Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Strategy, to support commercial results with positive ethics and sustainability outcomes. You will lead a small team to ensure that this work will have positive social and environmental impact in our fish supply chains and develop and maintain Waitrose’s reputation as a leader in this area. Day to day you will: Lead the Partnership’s strategy and action plans on responsible sourcing of seafood, managing all risk and opportunities relating to sustainability and ethics in aquaculture and fisheries In collaboration with the fish category teams, ensure a secure supply of fish and seafood for Waitrose that meets market leading standards and differentiates the brand Lead and manage the Waitrose supplier Fish Forum; collaborate to ensure the effectiveness of the Waitrose Farming Partnership Engage suppliers on continuous improvement and research/innovation as required, on topics including fish welfare, bycatch, sustainable feed, and human rights Oversee programmes to measure farm performance such as the Responsible Efficient Production Index, and ensure these are aligned with other supply chains Take a leadership role in the development and delivery of industry-wide collaborative initiatives, including for example relevant Fishery Improvement Projects Ensure reporting against internal targets and external commitments is transparent and robust, and that it meets the needs of key stakeholders who evaluate Waitrose’s performance Represent the business publicly as the primary spokesperson on responsible sourcing of fish Manage and develop key external relationships such as Non-Governmental Organisations and certifying bodies Work collaboratively with suppliers, farmers & fishers to transition to more sustainable aquaculture & sourcing practices to address issues including climate impact, biodiversity, food waste, & human rights Essential skills you’ll need: Experience in leading the development and delivery of successful aquaculture & fisheries sourcing programmes Robust knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, industry standards and assurance schemes.
