We are looking for a dynamic individual with editorial and publishing expertise to lead Developmental Cell, a well-established Cell Press journal covering broad biology-relevant research. Developmental Cell is a highly regarded journal in cell biology and developmental biology since its inception in 2001, and successfully expanded into plant, cancer biology, and immunology fields in recent years. About the Role As the Editor-in-Chief of Developmental Cell, you assume overall responsibility for setting the journal's scientific scope and determining its editorial direction. You will lead an editorial team at the journal. You will also be responsible for ensuring the quality and quantity of the research articles published in the journal. You will be expected to travel to attend conferences, seminars, and scientific meetings and to build a broad network of domestic and international contacts. The Editor-in-Chief will also need to develop and foster partnerships with colleagues of the production, marketing, operations, press and advertising teams, as well as with other editorial teams at Cell Press, and to contribute to the overall publishing strategy of Cell Press. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and lead a recognized journal which is part of the vibrant and growing Cell Press journal portfolio. The position is flexible in terms of location, with options available in various cities across UK or Europe, where Cell Press offices are situated. Responsibilities - Further refining and evolving the strategic focus of the journal. - Cultivating and mentoring an international editorial team, fostering a culture of collaboration, creativity, and high standards. Your guidance will empower a great team to reach new heights in serving the community. - Managing a team of scientific editors. - Managing day-to-day operations at the journal. - Working closely with the Cell Press editorial family, the production and operation team, as well as the business development and marketing team to launch cross-journal initiatives and share best practices. Together, we serve the community better. - Representing Developmental Cell at conferences and public forums, showcasing the journal's impact and engaging with the broader scientific community. Your passion will inspire researchers and enable us to serve their needs. - Traveling to participate in domestic & international conferences and visiting research institutes to engage with researchers. Requirements - A Ph.D. in any area of cell biology and developmental biology. - 5 years of editorial experience. - Broad interest across life science research - Have a comprehensive understanding of the current and emerging trends in life science research, with a knack for innovative thinking and strategic planning. - Established network with the relevant research community. - Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with a genuine passion for engaging with the scientific community.
