What's involved with this role: Temporary Plant Operator - Highways Operations Job Ref: Leicestershire 0009 71E0 / 1 Pay Rate: Up to £13.00 per hour PAYE depending on experience Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours Role Length: This opening assignment is for 2-3 months City: Leicestershire Candidates must be prepared to travel across the borough. The purpose of the role is to work as a member of a team to deliver a best value, customer-focussed service throughout Leicestershire and occasionally surrounding counties, working flexibly, efficiently and effectively to maintain highways and footpaths, construct new roadways and structures, and effect solutions to environmental events in accordance with statutory requirements Key Responsibilities: Operate heavy plant, such as tractors, roadmenders, multi-hog and other horticultural machinery. Work safely on the live public highway, observing Traffic Management requirements at all times. Work on a range of highways activities such as grass, verge and hedgerow cutting, small to medium patching works and other general maintenance activities. Maintain training records in accordance with the requirements of the personal development process. Comply with all authority and departmental policies, management systems, procedures and working practices (especially in relation to Health and Safety procedures). Any other reasonable duties which may be allocated from time to time by management commensurate with the responsibilities of the post. Skilled Road-worker Trades Test Assessment. NVQ level 2 in Highway Maintenance or similar. New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) Accreditation Accredited and relevant H&S Training Records and Certification (e.g. NPORS plant operator, IOSH working safely, Appointed Person, etc). Skills & Experience: Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation. Extensive ability to take measurements and make calculations (e.g. areas, volumes and weights. Extensive knowledge of construction specifications, materials, compaction and workmanship requirements. Extensive knowledge of safe working practices using plant and machinery. Ability to drive a range of heavy plant, and/or other horticultural equipment. Knowledge of Traffic Management requirements when working on the live highway. Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite). Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle required for this role.
