We are seeking a qualified Mechanical Maintenance Engineer responsible for undertaking planned and reactive maintenance of complex mechanical control systems across the diverse building services of the Trust estate.
Qualifications Required:
* Recognised time served apprenticeship, or City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering/Plumbing or BTEC (ONC) in Engineering or equivalent.
* NVQ3 or above.

The role is based at Watford General Hospital; however, there may be occasions when travel to other sites is required.
You will have the ability to analyse complex faults and undertake rectifications to ensure continuity of service.
You will be able to prioritise workloads, identify potential improvements to operational systems and management processes to increase departmental efficiencies.
Please note: you must be able to travel to site for emergency on-call within an hour.
Main Duties of the Job
* Undertake complex trade tasks within your specialist area in support of the Team's overall output.
* Ensure the day-to-day efficient and safe working of all engineering plant on site.
* Attend to plant breakdowns to carry out repairs and restore the units to service as quickly and efficiently as possible.
* Prepare for inspections carried out by the Trust's pressure vessel insurers.
* Activate changeover of plant and/or its safe isolation in the event of a malfunction or breakdown.
* Work on all types of air-conditioning plant.
* Be fully conversant with all types of belt drives, pulleys and direct drive couplings.
* Be fully conversant with all types of pumps.
* Work on oil-free medical and control air reciprocating compressors and vacuum plant.
* Carry out minor installation work of all types of pipe work.
* Experience in hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
* Be conversant with H.T.H.W., M.T.H.W., L.P.H.W. and Steam Heating Systems.
* Carry out minor electrical work such as isolation/connection/disconnection of electrical supplies to all forms of mechanical plant.

Job Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair faults on complex mechanical services, engineering plant and equipment, deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others. Carry out both installation repairs and planned preventative maintenance on heating systems, compressors, motors, pumps, heat recovery, ventilation systems and controls. Carry out statutory inspections and testing on mechanical services, engineering plant and equipment, and complete necessary documentation. Safe isolation of mechanical and electrical services, medical gases and natural gas in emergency situations. Assist in the investigation of accidents and dangerous occurrences within the department. Carry out all work in accordance with the department's generic Risk Assessments and non-generic Risk Assessments as and when required. Use all relevant tools, machinery and equipment to comply with current Health & Safety Legislation. Fully understand all relevant general Health & Safety issues pertaining to the relevant trade discipline. Provide emergency recall and undertake on-call duties as part of the on-call team to ensure that emergency repairs occurring out of normal hours are attended to. Work overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required by management. Liaise and work with other trades/disciplines including external agencies (contractors).
The job:
* May involve shift working and planned overtime.
* Will involve on-call responsibilities - you would need to be on site within 1 hour of call out.
All staff required to undertake on-call commitments must be able to make their own way to and from the required locations.

Education and Qualification

Experience
* Some post qualification experience in Mechanical services.

Salary: £31,469 to £38,308 a year incl. HCA with a local R&R 12.5% pa & on-call 4.5% allowance.
