Job Purpose
To work as part of a flexible Team within the Accommodation Services Dept. To provide a service to ensure that the facilities are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition. As a member of the team to personally deliver a responsive, customer focused cleaning and facilities service demonstrating teamwork and a high quality of service.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Meeting, dealing with and influencing other people as an essential part of the job.
2. Deliver friendly, customer-focused proactive cleaning.
* Assisting with general enquiries from students, maintenance personnel and vacation residents, and other commercial guests in the course of your working day.
* Cooperative working with colleagues from your own and other departments.
* Promote a positive image of the University at all times by maintaining a professional appearance, wearing workwear as issued.
2 Responsibility for Equipment and Valuables:
* Custody of keys whilst on duty and ensuring the safe return at the end of the shift.
* Care of equipment supplied by the University to carry out given tasks.
* The security and privacy of residents whilst you are working in and around their rooms.
3 Operational duties:
* Cleaning of a specific area of the Hall to the required standard using appropriate cleaning materials and equipment. Areas include Bedrooms, Flats & Houses, Offices and Public areas.
* Specific cleaning duties will include:
* Emptying waste and recycling receptacles in line with building specification.
* Suction cleaning, dusting, damp wiping various surfaces.
* Cleaning various floor types like carpets, tiles and lino.
* Removing dirty laundry and taking it to the in-house laundry, cleaning this laundry and during vacation making beds.
* Cleaning toilets, showers, baths and basins.
* Cleaning kitchen areas, sinks, microwave and fridges.
* Support internal emergency cleaning, ensuring that body fluid and any other emergency spillages and graffiti are dealt with in accordance with agreed procedures.
* Use all equipment and materials in an economical way, minimising waste where possible.
* Report fault/maintenance problems to the Hall Management.
* To operate safe working practices at all times in relation to COSHH.
* Daily cleaning could include staircases, toilets, showers, bedrooms and any communal areas within the Hall.
* Communicate with manager regarding specific periodic tasks and carry out as required.
* Rectify any complaints regarding standard of cleaning.
* Help in any other areas in absence of staff when required.
* Undertake any necessary training as arranged by Department.
* Ensuring there are enough stocks of cleaning materials and other items required to carry out daily tasks.
4 Health and Safety awareness:
* All staff have a responsibility to report equipment faults and safety issues as they occur.
* To ensure personal safety and that of others when undertaking duties and operating equipment.
* Follow safe working practices for the use and storage of equipment, using hazard warning signs and personal protective equipment during cleaning if required.
* Report any breaches of security and emergencies within the building to the Hall Management.
* Observe all rules and procedures in respect of hygiene, health and safety and fire prevention.
5 Objectives:
To provide a service to all residents and guests ensuring that excellent standards of cleanliness and hygiene are achieved in a manner appropriate to the ethos of the University Accommodation Office.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
1. A1 General Secondary Education with knowledge of COSHH Regulations & BICS cleaning standards.
2. A2 Some previous knowledge of cleaning and an understanding of the quality standards required within a similar working environment.
3. A3 Some understanding of relevant health and safety policies and procedures associated with the post, including fire safety, manual handling to ensure that you can respond appropriately to spillages and work safely and responsibly. Complete necessary training related to this.
Skills
Essential:
1. C1 Ability to use specialised equipment required to carry out basic duties.
2. C2 Ability to use cleaning materials appropriate to the specific task.
3. C3 Some customer care skills.
Experience
Essential:
1. E1 Experience of working in a similar environment.
2. E2 Experience of liaising and communicating with customers as appropriate.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 2, £23,028 per annum pro rata.
This post is part-time (20 hours per week) and open-ended. Shifts are Monday to Friday 09.00 – 13.00.
