Scotland House London is a unique partnership between Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise/SDI, Visit Scotland and Food and Drink Scotland. It provides a platform for the development of trade and investment links, the deepening of Scotland’s international networks and diplomatic relations, the strengthening of government to government relations and facilitation of collaboration on economic, academic and innovation projects and partnerships. The choice of London as a location for Scotland House reflects its position as a global centre for diplomacy, finance, the corporate world and a centre for capital. This includes being home to international Embassies, with almost every nation having a designated representation in the city. Scotland House London is the Scottish Government Ministerial office in London, and the team organises and manages programmes for up to 20 Ministerial visits a year. It is also the base for a growing number of Scottish Government employees when visiting London on business, or who are based in London as remote workers. Responsibilities Team Leadership: Lead the Economic Diplomacy Team, directly managing one C1 and as Deputy take responsibility for ensuring the leadership and management of the wider team alongside the SCS1 Deputy Director. Strategic Collaboration: Work with SG policy teams and agency partners to advance Scotland House London (SHL) objectives, including delivering on the National Strategy for Economic Transformation (NSET), PfG Economic Actions, trade and investment strategies, and supporting and promoting SNIB. Economic Engagement: Build partnerships with the City of London Corporation (in collaboration with the DITI Financial Services team), SNIB, and SFT to enhance Scotland’s economic priorities, including trade, capital investment, and financial services. London Operations: Take a leading role in ensuring effective operation of SHL allowing the SCS1 to focus on strategy/ being the senior representative, this will include ensuring they have an oversight of SHL budget and finances. Drive a coordinated SG presence in London, aligning efforts across SG teams, agencies, and public bodies to promote Scotland’s economic interests. Corporate Relations: Lead strategic engagement with London-based corporate HQs, focusing on shared policy goals and investment opportunities. International and B2B Networks: Develop partnerships on economic policy through international networks like the Association of Economic Attachés and strengthen connections with B2B networks such as the Scottish Business Network. Responsibilities Success Profile Success profiles are specific to each job and they include the mix of skills, experience and behaviours candidates will be assessed on. Experience: Skilled in building relationships and handling conflicting interests with sensitivity. Knowledgeable about Scotland’s investment landscape and economic strategies, with experience in business and commercial partnerships being an advantage. Experienced in leading diverse teams to collaborate strategically across organisational boundaries. Provisional Start Date and Length of Service: The successful candidate will be expected to take up post in early 2025 and will be expected to remain in post for the duration of this three-year assignment unless successful at gaining promotion to a higher Band or Grade.
