Do you enjoy being busy in an operational role and helping customers? Are you willing to get 'stuck in' to help us at railway models trade shows?
About us
Buying a souvenir is always a big part of having a super day out our Museums. Our Retail department for the Science Museum Group are passionate about continuing the audience journey, creating a high-quality in-store and online shopping environment. Within our Retail offer we have exclusive miniature models for our Locomotion enthusiasts to purchase and enjoy.
To support the work of the Railway Models Team, we are now looking for a Models Operations Assistant to help ensure accurate and efficient dispatch of orders and handling of customer queries. This is a part time role (18.75 hours pw across 3 days), on a fixed-term basis for 12 months, contractually based at Locomotion in Shildon.
About the role
As Models Operations Assistant, you will support with the dispatch of online orders, answering of customer queries, and occasionally supporting trade shows and events throughout the year - driving, loading and unloading and assisting the team over the event.
About you
You will enjoy being hands-on and working operationally in a busy environment, providing great customer service in person and remotely. You will be organised with good time management and will be able to work with computerised stock control systems.
As there is an element of supporting trade shows (circa 5 or 6 times per year), you will bring a flexible approach, with a willingness to 'get stuck in' to support the team. Travelling to and from trade shows and events will require you to have the ability to drive, be the registered user on a hire agreement, and operate a small van (up to 3.5 ton). An interest in railway models might be helpful but is not essential!
Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
