ENGINEERING MANAGER MAESTEG PERMANENT FULL TIME £60K NEGOTIABLE DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE Overview Accountable for all activities (health, safety and environment, quality, people, performance, standards) within the engineering function, and responsible for supporting the Operations Director and SLT in delivering the same in other functions. Accountable for supporting the Operations Director to deliver the Engineering strategy for site To develop a strategy to ensure that the engineering function contributes to KPIs for above activities being met/exceeded, and to create and sustain a proactive approach to the prevention of equipment failure. Key Responsibilities: Health, Safety & Environment • Zero tolerance approach to safety standards, ensuring that (Pre-start checks, PPE, Lock off, behaviours, contractor activity) all are working safely • Active role in creation of procedures and policies as required • Ensuring that all personnel behaviour is consistent with safe working and that the behaviours of others are challenged if they are putting themselves or others at potential risk. • Management of safety/environmental incidents and compliance with incident reporting requirements. • Communication to team of Health, Safety, Environmental issues from other areas of site/business. • Ensure that all project work undertaken within the business and that a health & safety file and technical file are suitable and sufficient. • Ensure that all relevant equipment has required statutory checks in place. • Ensure that energy consumption is considered when undertaking purchasing of equipment/capital projects, and that routines are in place to identify and eliminate energy wastage. • Ensure that team are suitably trained to undertake their role in the business. • As part of the Site leadership Team, formulate and deliver the site vision/strategy aligned to the company vision/strategy. Quality • Ensuring that all required process controls checks/records are completed to the company standard. • Ensure that equipment is maintained to standard ensuring product can be consistently manufactured within tolerance. • Assist with complaint investigation and feedback. • Provide support for product development trials. People • Responsible for development of engineering structure • Responsible for ensuring that proper rules are in place for holiday management and that plans are in place to maintain schedule compliance during peak holiday periods. • Informal coaching/counselling of team members to enable them to fulfil their potential. • Consistent application of HR processes (attendance management/disciplinary/grievance etc.) within relevant level of authority. • Give and receive training as is required • Delivery of team briefs/toolbox talks. • Work closely with HR in developing positive employee relations through fostering team working, communication and employee engagement. Performance/Cost • Maximise and constantly improve equipment performance • Ensure that the engineering planning process is managed robustly, ensuring high levels of compliance. • Drive for standards, ensuring that high standards of housekeeping and hygiene (clean as you go, equipment stored correctly, tidy workshop, floor areas clean and clear etc.). • Contribute to identification and delivery of improvement projects. • Manage engineering budget (labour, overtime, fixed plant repairs, maintenance contracts etc.) and look for opportunities to create value. • Manage inventory levels through engineering team • Develop and execute plan to protect site from equipment obsolescence. • Manage site capital programme. • Keep abreast of industry technology and identify process/plant improvement opportunities. • Comply with all relevant company and industrial control policies & standards with regards to cyber security risk mitigation and management. Qualifications • Degree or equivalent • Professional qualification e.g. Prince2 desirable • IOSH Managing Safely / NEBOSH General Certificate desirable • Experience • Electrical and/or mechanical qualifications / time served apprenticeship • 3 Years experience of operating in a medium/large automated manufacturing operation with relevant safety systems, quality standards, housekeeping standards etc. • Experience of leading a team • Experience of leading and delivering change desirable. • Experience of budget control. • Experience of managing capital programme desirable. • Project management experience desirable. • Able to demonstrate use of data / analytical skills • Experience of computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) and stock control systems. • Experience of working with engineering schedule KPIs. • Some experience of continuous improvement/lean manufacturing techniques e.g. DMAIC, would be an advantage.
