To undertake unsupervised routine engineering and building planned and unplanned preventative maintenance, fault finding, building, tiling, joinery, electrical, plumbing and breakdown tasks and to provide general duties of cleaning and store keeping. Other specialist duties may also be required after appropriate training to provide a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors to the Trust.
Main duties of the job
1. To be aware of the workings of the Buildings and Mechanical systems within the Healthcare environment and to carry out essential maintenance and repair of such items.
2. To be responsible for the skilled and semi-skilled maintenance activities on the Trust's engineering assets, including processing of work on personal electronic devices, time sheets using hand-held technology and test reports necessary to comply with statutory legislation.
3. To carry out equipment surveys, audits and visual inspections as requested by the line manager including building, flooring and tiling, report defects to ensure work is carried out in a timely manner.
4. Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections, adjustments, and commissioning tests in accordance with Trust procedures and schedules on a wide variety of Hospital equipment. Carry out statutory safety checks and departmental procedures, recording all readings, undertake sampling and observations as required. Carry out first line assessment, fault finding, repair, substitute service and/or safe isolation as required.

The post-holder will be employed on a wide range of complex fault-finding and maintenance duties. He/she will be responsible for maintaining all Building Fabric, Mechanical, Electrical, and building infrastructure services, and equipment within Alder Hey.
The post-holder will provide technical assistance to their mechanical, electrical, and building colleagues and contractors ensuring compliance with the Trust's safety standards and procedures for all relevant systems.
The post-holder will undertake complex fault diagnosis and fault rectification, maintenance and capital work across the Trust. In addition, planning minor improvement works as directed by management. To be responsible for the calibration of mechanical installations Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) and the Reactive Maintenance (RM) of all Alder Hey Estates services and plant.
Person Specification
Essential
* Recognised and registered engineering apprenticeship HND or demonstrate equivalent experience Current IEE regulations City & Guilds or equivalent Recognised Competent Person accreditations.
* Provide details of qualifications.
Knowledge
Essential
* Building maintenance and systems.
* Follow detailed engineering/ electrical drawings and specifications.
* Working on Low Voltage electrical systems.
* Wide knowledge of all aspects of building, including materials and tools. Full awareness of regulations and legislation and how they apply to a work environment. Adaptable to change.
* Health and Safety legislation as applicable to core trade, ensuring the well-being of staff, patients and visitors. Judgement is required regarding a range of facts and situations that require analysis where there is more than a straightforward choice of options regarding required work.
