Job summary
We provide support to children aged 0 - 18 years with complex medical needs ranging from epilepsy, gastrostomy care, tracheotomy care, ventilator dependency, learning disability, communication and mobility support needs.
The residential house is well-equipped with 6 bedrooms that are all decorated to the taste of the child or young person that lives there.
Main duties of the job
You will support the Registered Manager by leading the day-to-day management of a shift. This will involve providing practical assistance and emotional support to empower your team in supporting the children they support to achieve their goals and aspirations.
About us
The Courtyard Courtyard Care, is a small purpose-built bungalow for children with complex medical needs, with life limiting illnesses. The support team are trained to look after children who may have a tracheostomy tube, require long term ventilation, epilepsy, physio, gastrostomies, and other medical needs.

Courtyard Care Ltd will endeavor toprovide a family orientated, negotiated care package to meet the needs of allthe children and their families.
1. Care Team Leaders will support the management team and havein the direct management ofthe children/young people and support in the management of the staff teamsthat support these children/young people to ensure that the highest standardof care is in place.
2. To meet and promote the needs of the children/youngpeople and provide opportunities to advance their opportunities and life experiencesin a positive manner.
3. They will support in the recruitment, maintenance anddevelopment of the staffing team
4. In addition to ensuring the home is run in linewith company policy and will hold supervisory responsibilities for members ofthe team, they will run shifts and promote positive relationships within thehome.
5. Care Team leaders will undertake a wide range of duties which will involvedirect care of children who have complex needs within Courtyard Care Ltd homes.
6. They will be expected to work shifts and work flexibly to meet the needs of thechildren and fulfill all health and safety requirements.
7. They will provide part of the on-call servicefor the childrens homes if/when required alongside the management team.
8. To act as a member of the team andassist the management in giving the highest standard of care possible to allthe children/young people at Courtyard Care Ltd, closely following individual plans,risk assessments and programmes in place.
9. To understand the importance of theneed for confidentiality in all clients matters at all times.
10. To act as a role model in conjunctionwith colleagues to ensure yours and their welfare and create a safe, clean andsecure environment for all children/young people and relatives.
11. To take overall responsibility inensuring the running of the home is to its highest possible standard,coordinating the shift, allocating child supervision and prioritizing care.
12. Act accountable as a resource androle model for the junior staff and the children/young people.
13. Adopt a forward-thinking approach tocare provided and act as the childrens advocate in conjunction with the juniorstaff.
14. To work in a variety of settings ifneeded, in order to support the children, in the childs family home,educational setting and activity setting etc.
15. To develop skills in order that thechilds individual health, social, emotional and psychological developmentneeds are met.
16. To provide support, advice andinformation to the children, parents and other carers as required.
17. Demonstrate an awareness of childdevelopment and the childs need for appropriate cognitive age play, adheringto the rostered activity rota.
18. To act as a driver/escort for thechild if needed.
19. Once trained to provide and carry outclinical duties necessary to meet the child/young peoples health needs on adaily basis.
20. Accountable for petty cash while onduty and adhere to the company policy and procedure.
21. Organise time management toaccommodate rostered activities and intensive interaction for the shift.
22. To complete supervisions forallocated staff in line with policy and procedure.
23. Identify training requirements formembers of the team and actively support team members to develop within theirrole.
24. To undertake any other dutiesreasonably requested by the Management.
Communication:
25. Maintain clearly written, accurate contemporaneous records ofinvolvement with children and their families; in addition, ensure all otherchild/young peoples documentation is completed and up to date before the endof shift.
26. Report any unusual occurrence in the childs appearance, condition orbehavior to management, where necessary adhere to child protection policy.
27. Answer telephone and act in a polite, professional manner, were possibledealing with any queries, otherwise leaving a clear accurate message formanagement.
28. Act as an ambassador for Courtyard Care Ltd at all times.
29. Ensure daily log, memo file and handover file are checked and completed
30. Ensure diaries are checked and adhere to, delegating responsibilitieswere necessary.
31. Take part in and ensure thorough client handover takes place ensuringclient confidentiality at all times.
32. To work in conjunction with the key workers and management in evaluatingongoing care needs and child/young persons development.
33. To be aware of the emotional, psychological and social needs of thechildren/young person.
34. To demonstrate empathy and sensitivity to others that is non-judgmentaland shows respect for their beliefs, values and culture.
35. Liaise with multi-disciplinary professionals and form inter-agency linksand networks.
36. Oversee coordination of the shift ensuring all agreed policies and proceduresare adhere to.
37. Take responsibility to keep yourself up to date with any changes inplans, risk assessments etc. for the children/young people including read overfiles when returning from annual leave or any absences.
38. Attend all staff meetings and any extra responsibility meetings relevantto your role.
39. Use appropriate methods and language to communicate in a succinct andclear manner, to listen and take account of others views and needs. Showunderstanding and use logic to communicate.
40. Implement and use appropriate methods of communication to provideconsistency, structure and predictability encouraging positive engagement.
Legal and Ethical
41. To know the importance ofparental involvement in decision making and the legal requirements regardingparental consent
42. Have knowledge of the rights of the child in conjunction with Childrens Regulations and Quality Standards, Every Child Matters and the importance of giving them information according to their level of understanding.
43. To be personally responsible in demonstrating your awareness of the relevant legislation within childcare in particular Childrens Regulations, Childrens Home Quality Standards and all other Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Courtyard Care Ltd
44. Have a clear understanding of the role and function of OFSTED.
45. Ensure the provision of the service adheres to the statement of purpose and all relevant legislation.

Training:
48. To support the management by keeping up to date with the training programme for whole staff team in line with the Workforce Plan.
49. Attend all relevant courses, in-service training days and statutory annual updates in line with the training programme.
50. Identify own training needs which ensures your competence to meet all the needs of the resident children/young people.
51. Develop a personal development plan with staff team for whom hold supervisory responsibility.
52. Maintain personal responsibility for personal training and being professionally updated.
53. To act as a mentor during induction, orientation for all staff and delegate support for new members of the team, ensuring they achieve competence within their probation period.
54. Maintain an overall awareness of current issues in any identified field required for the smooth running of the home.
General
55. Be responsible for promoting ongoing improvements in the overall successful running of Courtyard Care Ltd.
56. All staff will be expected to attend and contribute to staff meetings and senior staff meetings.
57. Work as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team creating positive working relationships.
58. All annual leave will be booked in accordance with Courtyard Care Ltd policy and directly through the management team.
59. Take responsibility for the coordination of evacuating the home in case of a fire, adhering to the evacuation procedure.
60. You are expected to report on duty at commencement time of shift, any lateness must be reported to management and documented on the rota and in the daily log.
61. Any sickness should beconducted as per policy and a back to work form must be completed on return towork. Any sickness must be reported directly to the senior staff on shift andmanagement and recorded on the rota.
62. It is your responsibility to ensure any staff returning from sickness, complete sickness form and read back over all documentation up to their last day in work.
