Administration Officer – Maternity cover FIXED TERM
Applications are invited for the post of School Appeals Administration Officer based in an office suite at the prestigious Sopers House, Cuffley, Hertfordshire. The office is a two-minute walk from Cuffley Station.
The role is a maternity cover which will start as soon as possible and end on 31 July 2025. The contract will be for a set period.
Salary is on a scale of £2083 per month.
There is no on-site parking, but an allowance of £41.66 per month is offered to pay for parking in two local public car parks.
Hours are 9:30am – 5pm with 30 minutes for lunch. This is an office-based role. The job is not suitable for remote working.
28 days leave (pro rata) including Bank Holidays.

JOB PURPOSE:
We are a small, independent organisation based in Cuffley, Hertfordshire. We organise independent School Admission and Exclusion Appeals for various Local Authorities, Schools, and Academies nationally. Due to significant expansion, we are looking for an administrator to join our busy team.
As a member of the Administration team, you will work within a busy office environment supporting the Principal Clerk and Appeals Manager with their day-to-day tasks including, but not limited to:
1. Providing administrative and clerking support for school admission appeals.
2. Liaising with schools, admission teams, and local authorities to arrange appeals, gather information and share feedback.
3. Downloading appeal forms and scheduling them to be heard at appropriate dates and times.
4. Answering telephone and email enquiries.
5. Collating files/ paperwork to post/ email to panel members, parents, schools, and local authorities.
6. Minute taking.
7. To ensure that all duties and responsibilities are carried out in accordance with policies and procedures.
8. Any other duties as required by the Principal Clerk and Appeals Manager.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. 5 GCSEs or equivalent NVQ level in administration. This will be waived where an applicant can demonstrate considerable administration experience.
2. You must have a good command of written English and the ability to proofread and occasionally take notes of meetings.
3. Experience of liaising with customers/ parents/ clients using a variety of methods, including virtual meetings.
4. Experience of accurately capturing, storing, and retrieving information to meet organisational and customer needs.
5. Ability to interpret information and data.
6. Keyboard skills are essential.
7. Experience of working in a customer facing environment or people orientated role.
8. Experience of working effectively as part of a team. This is essential while working in a small office.
9. Must be able to respect confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
10. Knowledge and experience of administrative processes and systems.
11. Able to support and communicate with panel members who sit in a voluntary capacity.
12. Evidence of working with computer systems to input, store and retrieve data.
13. Ability to communicate positively whether in writing or verbally (including good telephone manner).
14. Ability to respond flexibly to changing demands.
15. Ability to present accurate information clearly, both written and orally.
16. A flexible approach to working.
17. Knowledge and understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
18. Must be able to perform all duties and tasks with reasonable adjustment, where appropriate, in accordance with the provisions of Equality Act 2010.
