Job summary
The Dietetic department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham is excited to advertise a substantive Band 7 to lead the cardiothoracic, cardiology, transplantation, critical care patient care pathway.
The QEH is one of seven hospitals which currently have a cardiothoracic transplant unit in the UK and is a single site 100 bed critical care unit which specialises in delivering care to patients who have undergone highly complex surgery including cardiac, liver, neurology, major trauma and Burns.
We are searching for a Dietitian who is looking to achieve their career aspirations in cardio-thoracic surgery/transplantation and cardiology and wants to advance their clinical leadership and service development skills in a supportive and forward thinking large dietetic team.
You will work closely with the clinical leads, wider band 7, multi-professional and therapy teams. The post is 100% committed to CPD; with opportunities to be involved in research/audit and presenting at conferences nationally and internationally. Main duties, tasks & skills required
You will work closely with the multi-professional and dietetic teams. You will be expected to balance long stay meetings, ward board rounds, multi-disciplinary meetings, Band 7 meetings alongside a clinical case load managing at least 4 wards, including the coronary care unit with the support of a band 5 Dietitian and 3 Dietetic assistant.
You will lead role in the assessment and treatment of a variety of highly complex inpatients, for example patients who require nutritional optimisation for heart and or lung transplant or surgery, post lung transplant in cystic fibrosis, optimisation of nutrition with mechanical circulatory devices, management of chylothorax.
You should have dietetic experience within cardiac-thoracic surgery and cardiology. Also experience, skills and knowledge in home/enteral feeding, nutritional support, education, training, clinical supervision, line management teaching and audit will be required.
You will also be involved in personal and staff development through reflective practice, competency assessment, mentoring and student training.

Essential
* Evidence of relevant GCSE, NVQ, GNVQ, AS and A levels
* Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
* Registration with HCPC
Desirable
* MSc or equivalent experience e.g. advanced level of clinical practice / relevant postgraduate, professionally accredited courses
Experience
Essential
* Significant post-graduate experience in relevant specialist area.
* Knowledge of standards of record keeping and medico-legal issues.
* Practical skill & in-depth experience in a multi-disciplinary setting in relevant specialist field evidenced by a learning portfolio and leading to advanced theoretical knowledge in area/s of clinical practice.
* Advanced specialist post-graduate training in relevant specialist area.
* Significant to substantial postgraduate experience of working in a specialist capacity in multi-disciplinary teams in relevant specialties, leading to the acquisition of advanced theoretical knowledge and highly developed skills.
* Experience of training Dietetic students.
* Evidence of relevant continued professional development in following areas.
o accredited specialist training courses
o attendance at specialist group meetings of BDA
o Advanced Diploma in Dietetic Practice
o attendance at relevant multi-disciplinary courses/conferences
* Teaching e.g.
o presentation skills
o clinical supervisory skills training for student training
o communication skill training / counselling skills training
o cognitive behaviour therapy training (CBT)
* High level of knowledge gained through attendance at postgraduate specialist courses which would be expected to be at Masters Level or equivalent.
* Significant post registration experience at entry to post.
* Specialist experience relevant to specialist area.
* In depth knowledge of research and audit.
* In depth knowledge of nutritional assessment / nutritional screening tools.
* Knowledge and experience of all types of nutritional support.
* Maintains excellent knowledge of clinical developments.
