Job overview
We are seeking to appoint a Head of Design and Technology to join our Extended Leadership Team at The Spires College. This is an exciting opportunity to take a new department and make it into something exceptional. It would suit an ambitious teacher who has established themselves as an excellent classroom practitioner and is now seeking the opportunity to develop leadership skills in order to progress their career. Alternatively, there is opportunity for an already experienced Head of Department looking for a new challenge in a school that supports its teachers to thrive.
At the College, we are passionate about teaching and learning and would love to hear from you if you share our belief in the power of education to transform lives. If you are ready for the next step in your career and are dedicated to bringing positive outcomes for all young people then this could be the perfect role for you. We would welcome applications from teachers of any of the subjects that sit within our Design and Technology Department.
The College is a close community, with a shared desire to be the best we can be. As a School we are committed to the professional development of our staff and invest heavily in ensuring our teachers grow and flourish as practitioners. Teachers are regarded as professionals and given both the autonomy and guidance to match pedagogical choices to the needs of the students and the subject.
We offer:
* the opportunity to be part of an Extended Leadership Team that leads on College improvement;
* excellent professional development and a wide range of professional opportunities, including significant leadership development opportunities;
* the opportunity to work to your own initiative whilst receiving ample guidance and support;
* a high level of support for all new staff;
* the opportunity to work alongside excellent practitioners across the College;
* a friendly, supportive environment;
* a modern, purpose-built building and excellent facilities;
* further benefits including free access to the college gym, discounts for external gym memberships and retailers, a salary sacrifice scheme to assist with large value transport purchases, free annual flu immunisations and access to a 24 hour employee assistance programme.
The successful applicant will:
* be an exceptional classroom practitioner, who is able to teach Design and Technology, Textiles or Food Technology across Key Stages 3 to 5;
* be committed to working in a close, collaborative team;
* have experience of developing the work of colleagues at various professional stages;
* have the ability to motivate and inspire others;
* be able to use a strong pedagogical understanding to develop and ensure the successful delivery of the curriculum;
* be enthusiastic about giving young people the best possible start in life.

Our aim at The Spires College is simple: to make certain that every young person achieves their true potential. Our ethos centres upon a love of learning and upon developing every member of our College community as an independent learner, who knows how to learn and is helped to develop the resilience and determination to tackle all the challenges that they will meet – at College and beyond. In this way, our students become successful and fulfilled life-long learners.
We prioritise the professional development of our teachers so that their knowledge is current; their skills are honed, refreshed and invigorated. I want our teachers to enthuse and inspire others; to explore new ideas and opportunities for, and with, your children.
Our students are involved in every aspect of College life beyond the classroom: extra-curricular clubs and trips are always available but our students also take an active role in shaping the future of the College through a wide range of student leadership activities. Our students leave this College as rounded, confident, independent young adults, ready to take up their places in society and equipped with the means to seize their futures.
