Birmingham Community Libraries are being transformed with a focus on early intervention and prevention as we amalgamate with the Neighbourhood Advice service. Libraries are safe spaces which act as gateways to support, by providing library services in areas of high socio, economic need. The hours will need to be worked on a rota basis which includes evenings. Saturday working is required as well as working at various libraries around the city. You will assist the Library Manager and other senior staff through this period of transformation. Key duties of the advertised posts include assisting the Library Manager with the day-to-day operation of the library building including health and safety issues, supervising staff, organising staff rotas and dealing with timesheets. Duties also include developing community activities for children and adults, working with partner organisations, financial administration, collating statistical information, enrolling new borrowers, helping customers access IT services, issuing and discharging books on a computerised system. Previous experience of a customer facing role, using IT in a work environment, supervisory responsibility and an ability to categorise and sort information are key to the position. These contracts may be extended subject to Workforce Review Board approval.
