Problem solving on the line – component level fault finding to structured analysis to identify longer term production and performance issues
1. Work with manufacturing and supply teams on all issues and problems of a technical nature, driving these to full root cause with sustainable corrective actions in place.
2. Investigate document and report faults with customer owned products. Implementing improvements to solve documented faults.
3. At all points during production process give manufacturing technical input.
4. Challenge conventions in order to ensure continuous improvements, especially with regard to manufacturing cost and ease of manufacture.
Manufacturing process development and analysis
5. Assist manufacturing in creating balanced lines with the flexibility to change dependant on the production requirements.
6. Review, update, write and clear and concise work instructions (SOP’s) for use by the Operations area.
7. Create and update configuration control documents and all product manufacturing standard times.
8. Write and review process FMEA & control plans and complete Risk Assessments, close the loop on identified actions.
9. Develop mid to long range improvement plans for both product and process, working with the relevant stakeholders
Support New Product Development
10. Involvement in the analysis of new and existing designs to ensure DFM & DFA criteria is met.
11. Manage the required activities through the relevant phase deliverable gate of the NPI process working with the BU Engineering and Project teams.
12. Understand the lifecycle of all component types, their sources and lead-times.
Manufacturing control – managing change process and product
13. Plan and control the execution of manufacturing change from concept to production acceptance for process improvements and trials through permits, concessions, SWI’s etc.
14. Control the introduction of new parts and tools into the manufacturing environment.
15. To assist with the supply of pre-production parts and assemblies to the Project teams.
Safety
16. Supports production with risk, COSHH assessment acting as subject matter expert for the product, components, assembly, and test processes. Supports a rigorous safety culture.
Support Sales with the preparation of data for customer and project bids.
Requirements:
General
17. Demonstrable experience in an engineering function in support of electronics manufacturing.
18. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in electronics test and manufacturing engineering.
19. Good communication skills that can sell and influence to a range of audiences internally and externally with the ability to work with all levels of the business.
20. Working knowledge of mechanical manufacturing philosophies, i.e. DFM/DFA
21. A working knowledge of electrical and mechanical assembly, manufacturing and test
22. An ability to produce concise reports and effective presentations.
23. Must be able to demonstrate a high level of self-motivation and creativity.
24. An independent thinker and able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplined team to tight deadlines.
25. Strong analytical skills.
Technical
26. Electronics knowledge including fault finding to component level
27. Knowledge of electrical and RF test techniques would be beneficial.
28. Knowledge of High Voltage electronics and encapsulation
29. Problem solving experience (8D, A3, Root Cause Analysis etc.)
30. Understanding of SPC data and calculations
Security
31. Capable of obtaining SC – Security Clearance
