Overview
Ballet Theatre Queensland (BTQ) is seeking a passionate and dynamic Company Manager to oversee the management and coordination of our productions and education programs. This role is central to the smooth running of BTQ’s performances, including managing volunteer parents and supervisors throughout the entire production process, both in rehearsals and at the theatre. The Company Manager will also provide vital support to the cast of each production and assist the Executive Director and Artistic Director with personal assistant duties, ensuring their schedules are managed effectively and supporting the company's operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Oversee the day-to-day operations of BTQ's productions and education programs, ensuring that all activities run smoothly and efficiently.
2. Manage and coordinate a team of volunteer parents and supervisors throughout all phases of production, including rehearsals, technical runs, and theatre performances.
3. Ensure all volunteers understand their roles and responsibilities and are fully supported throughout the production process.
4. Act as the primary point of contact for dancers, participants, and volunteers, ensuring clear and consistent communication regarding schedules, expectations, and any changes that may arise.
5. Liaise with the Artistic Director and Executive Director to ensure that all production logistics are aligned with BTQ’s goals and core values.
6. Coordinate with venue staff, costume and wardrobe teams, technical crews, and other production staff to ensure smooth operations before, during, and after performances.
7. Manage the day-to-day administration related to productions and education programs, including scheduling rehearsals, distributing materials, and maintaining production-related documentation.
8. Support the cast of each production by ensuring their needs are met, including communication of schedules, ensuring appropriate breaks, and providing general support for the well-being of dancers and staff.
9. Assist with the setup and breakdown of productions at the theatre, ensuring safety, efficiency, and adherence to BTQ standards.
10. Ensure effective and positive communication with the cast, helping to maintain morale and address any concerns that arise during the production process.
11. Act as the go-to person for all logistical questions and support for cast members, assisting in the smooth flow of rehearsals and performances.
12. Maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders, including dancers, staff, volunteers, and external partners.
13. Provide personal assistant support to the Executive Director and Artistic Director, including managing their calendars, arranging meetings, and handling administrative tasks.
14. Support the BTQ leadership team in implementing BTQ’s mission, vision, and core values, ensuring all aspects of the production reflect our commitment to inclusivity, community, professionalism, integrity, and joy.
Availability: Be available for weekend work (primarily Sundays) and occasional evenings when in production to support rehearsals and performances.
Skills and Qualifications
1. Strong organisational and management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
2. Experience in theatre or performing arts management, ideally in a ballet or dance company setting.
3. Proven ability to manage and motivate a team of volunteers, ensuring engagement and effective communication.
4. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
5. Ability to work collaboratively with artists, staff, and volunteers, demonstrating flexibility and a solution-focused attitude.
6. Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
7. A commitment to the values of BTQ: Inclusivity, Community, Professionalism, Integrity, and Joy.
8. Knowledge of production logistics, theatre protocols, and health and safety regulations is desirable.
9. Previous experience working in a ballet company or performing arts organisation is an advantage.
10. Experience supporting senior executives with administrative tasks is a plus.
11. Must have (or obtain) a current Working with Children Blue Card.
12. First Aid Training is a plus.
