As Hatchery Manager you'll lead the day-to-day operations of our South Auckland hatchery, ensuring the efficient production of high-quality Day-Old Chicks (DOCs) through effective incubation, planning, and teamwork.
This key leadership role puts safety, quality, biosecurity, and animal welfare at the forefront. You'll take ownership of site management, production planning, cost control, and continuous improvement, driving operational excellence while supporting the National Hatchery Manager in delivering world-class results.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage all hatchery operations to deliver high-quality chicks to internal and external customers on time and in spec (DIFOTIS).
2. Drive health & safety initiatives, ensuring a safe working environment for your team.
3. Oversee day-to-day hatching requirements, logistics, and production planning.
4. Manage staff recruitment, training, and development, building a strong succession plan.
5. Ensure compliance with biosecurity, welfare codes, and quality control standards.
6. Maintain plant and equipment, ensuring smooth operations and minimal downtime.
7. Work closely with internal and external customers, ensuring clear communication and service excellence.
8. Control costs and achieve productivity and KPI targets through effective planning and lean management practices.
Our Ideal Candidate:
1. Strong leadership experience in a hatchery, agriculture, or animal husbandry environment.
2. A tertiary qualification (preferred) in agriculture, animal science, or a related field.
3. Deep knowledge of incubation practices (single & multi-stage) and hatchery operations.
4. Understanding of health & safety regulations, biosecurity, and compliance.
5. Experience in site supervision, staff management, and operational planning.
6. Practical knowledge of lean management practices (SIMPLIFY!).
