Responsibilities
* Implement a range of small group and whole-school mental health prevention and promotion activities aimed at improving student mental health and wellbeing.
* Input into the development, implementation and evaluation of processes and strategies aimed at enhancing mental health and wellbeing prevention, promotion and early intervention.
* Assess, conceptualise and analyse wellbeing issues, providing evidence-based direct counselling support to clients with a range of mental health needs.
* Coordinate supports for young people with complex needs including referrals to specialist services.
* Demonstrate highly developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills.
* Understand legislative requirements regarding privacy of health information.
Role Overview
The Mental Health Practitioners (MHP) initiative aims to expand mental health and wellbeing support in government schools. This role involves:
* Enhancing mental health prevention and promotion activities by contributing to whole-school health and wellbeing plans.
* Providing early intervention services for individual students and groups identified as at-risk.
* Coordinating supports for students with complex needs, working with local mental health service providers.
Qualifications
Applicants must be qualified as a psychologist, social worker, mental health nurse, occupational therapist, or counsellor of a prescribed class:
* For Psychologists: full registration with AHPRA.
* For Mental Health Nurses: full registration with AHPRA and a postgraduate qualification in mental health.
* For Social Workers: eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers.
* For Occupational Therapists: full registration with AHPRA.
* For Counsellors: completed a Bachelor or Master of Counselling and be a practising member of either ACA or PACFA.
Additional requirements include:
* Demonstrated direct counselling experience.
* A current Working With Children Check.
* Specialisation in educational and/or developmental psychology (for Psychology applicants).
* Holding a Mental Health Nurse Credential (for Mental Health Nurse applicants).
* Membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers and an Accredited Social Worker Trade Mark (for Social Work applicants).
* A Better Access to Mental Health Endorsement (for Occupational Therapy applicants).
* Level 3-4 registration (ACA) or Registered Clinical Counsellor endorsement (PACFA) for Counselling applicants.

Location Profile

Salary ranges from $91,427 to $107,800 depending on experience, with paid school holidays and a 1% annual position allowance.
