Weekdays: 9:30 – 18:00, Saturdays: 12:00 – 17:00 Two Saturdays per month, otherwise working days are Tuesday to Friday.
This is a temporary contract covering maternity leave up until 8 th October 2025.
There may be the option to extend depending on the circumstances.
Modernity specialises in the collection and sale of rare and high-grade furniture, ceramics, glass, lighting and jewellery by the most renowned Nordic designers of the 20th century.
The large collection includes design classics by Hans Wegner, Finn Juhl, Arne Jacobsen Alvar Aalto, Axel Salto, Berndt Friberg as well as some outstanding unique pieces.
With a strong emphasis on post-war design, Modernity has throughout the years established itself as one of the leading galleries in northern Europe.
Modernity opened a London office in September 2019, within walking distance of Mayfair's major galleries and this has proven to be a great success.
To build on this Modernity opened a new space in Belgravia, Pimlico Road, in January 2023, and are looking for a Gallery Manager to oversee all aspects of the day to day running of the space and online presence.
This person will be key in developing the gallery’s client base, particularly that of trade, and working closely with the director to develop event and exhibition ideas.
Responsibilities Day to day face of the showroom.
Working with the team to ensure the gallery is clean, tidy and organised Greeting & assisting clients, managing the main inbox, answering phones Managing enquiries in a timely manner Dealing with clients with confidence and gravitas face to face, by phone and by email Discussing works with clients and closing sales; negotiating terms Supervising shipping & correspondence with clients Managing the data base, proactively developing the client list.
An important part of the role is working with the current clients.
Working with the UK Director to plan occasional events and outreach plans to develop the client base; proactively come up with solutions and ideas for ways to expand the current client base (including meeting with decorators on a daily/weekly basis).
Participating as part of the team at events and fairs as required, either abroad or locally in the UK.
Dealing with contractors and suppliers, keeping the space clean and tidy Pre and Post sale client liaising General business administration Helping the Stockholm office if needed Instagram content creation and posting Assisting with 1stdibs when required Person Specification: IMPORTANT that this person can generate business and develop Modernity’s client base (particularly focused on trade clients).
Proactive mindset, able to create work and leads independently.
Has a positive attitude and is full of energy, adding to the current good atmosphere in the gallery.
Motivated self-starter with a good track record working in a similar level of dealership, gallery, or auction house Confident salesperson with a passion for art and / or design Comfortable working alone and as part of the team Pro-active and ambitious character Strong administrative and organisational skills Physically fit and able to lift and move objects in the show room and warehouse.
There will be a requirement to occasionally visit the warehouse in Wembley.
Must have the right to work within the UK.
