An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Ophthalmology outpatients service at Denmark Hill, King's College Hospital. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with people and has an interest in working in an eye care setting.
This role requires excellent people skills and communication skills, and strict attention to detail in order to provide imaging of the highest quality. This rewarding position will develop and evolve with our collaborative team working approach to ensure we meet the advancing demand of patients with ocular conditions.
Previous experience of working with patients in an eye care setting would be beneficial.
Shift pattern (non-negotiable due to service requirements): 8am - 6pm, including one Saturday and one Sunday shift per roster month.
Main Duties of the Job
Demonstrating caring, compassionate, professional behavior fostering trust and confidence in the service for people in your care.
Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives, and members of the multidisciplinary network of professionals regarding all aspects of care demonstrating a range of appropriate communication skills.
To undertake ophthalmic technician duties including (but not limited to):
* Visual acuity assessment
* Visual field assessment
* Measurement of spectacles using the automated focimeter
* Measurement of intraocular pressure using the Reichert Ocular Response Analyser and iCARE
* Participation in the virtual technician-led clinic
* Use of electronic patient record management system
* Assisting in intravitreal injections and cross-linking services
* Administrative tasks associated with the role, following departmental guidelines and procedures
* Contributing to the efficient running of all clinics, opening and closing clinic settings
* Completion of successful care certificate within 3 months of start date
* Ensuring safe use and maintenance of all equipment
* Commitment to further training as required
* Demonstrating ophthalmic technician duties to others and assisting in training new staff when necessary
* Participation in team huddles and meetings
* Ensuring compliance with policies and procedures of the Trust

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree level qualification or equivalent ophthalmology qualification
* Enhanced ophthalmic imaging techniques (OVS) Qualification
* Care Certificate
* Experience in undertaking advanced ophthalmic diagnostic investigations
Experience
* Working in an ophthalmic setting supporting patients and the multi-disciplinary team with a range of ophthalmic technical skills
* Good IT skills and experience in using software packages

Salary: £28,622 to £30,225 a year per annum, including HCA
