Job Title: CNC / CAD / Designer Programmer (Homag CNC)
Location: Dudley
Rate of Pay: 40k PA
Employment Type: Full Time Permanent
Working Hours: Days 40 hours per week
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated CNC / CAD Programmer to join our growing team. The successful candidate will have extensive experience with 3D CAD modeling, CNC programming, and working with Homag CNC machines. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, precision-focused environment where you’ll play a key role in the transition from design to production.
As a CNC / CAD Programmer, you will be responsible for translating technical drawings and briefs into high-quality 3D CAD models and precise CNC cutting files. Your work will ensure our manufacturing processes run smoothly, efficiently, and with the highest level of accuracy. You'll work closely with both the design and technical teams, and sometimes directly with CNC operators on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities:
1. CAD Design and Modelling
2. Create accurate and detailed 3D CAD models from design briefs, technical drawings, or conceptual designs.
3. Produce 2D working drawings derived from 3D models for production use.
4. Ensure all drawings meet industry standards and are suitable for CNC machining.
5. CNC Programming & Nesting
6. Generate CNC cutting files (G-code) specifically for Homag CNC machines .
7. Perform nesting operations to optimize material usage and cutting efficiency, ensuring minimal wastage and cost-effective production.
8. Develop, test, and refine toolpaths for the CNC machine to ensure the best possible outcome for each component.
9. Regularly update and optimize the CNC programs to incorporate new designs, changes, and improvements in processes.
10. Material Management & Quantification
11. Accurately quantify material requirements for projects based on technical drawings and CAD models.
12. Ensure that the right materials are available for production by coordinating with the procurement team or suppliers.
13. Be proactive in identifying and solving any issues related to material shortages or discrepancies.
14. Production Support & Collaboration
15. Work closely with the design and technical teams to refine designs and ensure they are production ready.
16. Collaborate with the CNC operators to ensure that the programs are executed correctly and that the components meet quality standards.
17. Assist the CNC operators on the shop floor when necessary, providing technical support and troubleshooting issues related to the CNC machine or program.
18. Component & Production Catalogue
19. Create and maintain a production component catalogue that includes detailed specifications for every component manufactured.
20. Ensure that all components are categorized and indexed correctly for easy retrieval and reference during future projects.
21. Maintain organized records of all CAD files, CNC programs, and related documentation.
22. Continuous Improvement
23. Identify areas for improvement in the design, programming, or production processes, and propose solutions to increase efficiency, reduce costs, or improve quality.
24. Stay up to date with the latest trends in CAD software, CNC programming, and manufacturing technologies.
Required Skills and Experience:
25. CAD Software Proficiency : Extensive experience using CAD software (preferably [insert preferred software like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, etc.]) to create accurate 3D models and 2D drawings.
26. CNC Programming : Strong background in CNC programming with Homag or similar machines, including the ability to create cutting files and modify existing ones.
27. CNC Machine Knowledge : In-depth understanding of how Homag CNC machines operate and the ability to troubleshoot basic issues.
28. Nesting & Toolpath Creation : Experience with nesting software and toolpath optimization to maximize material usage and reduce costs.
29. Technical Drawing Interpretation : Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints accurately.
30. Material Knowledge : Good understanding of various materials and how they behave during machining processes.
31. Attention to Detail : Strong attention to detail to ensure high-quality outputs and minimize errors.
32. Problem Solving : A proactive problem-solver with the ability to identify challenges early and provide creative solutions.
Desirable Skills (Not Essential but Beneficial):
33. Familiarity with machine simulation software to test CNC programs before they are run on actual machines.
34. Experience with additional CNC equipment (other than Homag) would be a bonus.
35. Project Management experience, especially related to manufacturing workflows and timelines.
36. ISO 9001 or other relevant certifications.
