Job Title: Teaching Assistant (SEN - ASC Support)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 15:30 (Term Time Only)
A primary school in Brighton is looking for a teaching assistant to work one-to-one with a pupil who has Autism Spectrum Condition. In this role, you will support a child who experiences difficulties with social interaction and communication, helping them overcome barriers to accessing learning. Your role is critical in ensuring that the pupil receives the support necessary to participate effectively in classroom activities. You must have demonstrable SEN experience and an in-depth understanding of the challenges faced by children with autism.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide individualised 1:1 support to a pupil with ASC
* Adapt teaching methods and resources to meet the pupil's specific needs
* Assist in implementing tailored learning support plans
* Monitor progress and maintain detailed records of achievements and challenges
* Collaborate with the teaching team to maintain a structured learning environment
* Ensure adherence to the school's safeguarding and behavioural policies
Essential Experience/Attributes
* Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs
* Experience working with Autism Spectrum Condition and related challenges
* A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
* A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach
* Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team
* The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations and respond to the needs of the pupils
* Must be able to understand and follow the school's safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
* Qualifications relating to education, special educational needs, counselling or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
