The Set Builder is integral to designing and creating photography sets and props, ensuring they align with the Creative Brief.
Working under the guidance of the Creative Brief, Production and Studio Manager, you will lead freelance sub-teams to efficiently create and build studio sets and prototypes that meet the design brief, budget, and deadlines. Utilising available set build resources to deliver maximum value for money.
Key Responsibilities:
* Studio maintenance: Managing the upkeep of sets and studios through painting, decorating and joinery. Ensuring sets are completed and redecorated to align with the shoot schedule. Ensuring sets are efficiently dismantled after each shoot.
* Materials knowledge: Possessing in-depth knowledge of materials and their properties to assist with material selection and the technical aspects of studio briefs.
* Specialist equipment management: Ensuring specialist equipment is properly maintained and compliant with Health & Safety testing. Managing a workshop inventory and adhering to budget with consumable spend.
* Stakeholder management and communication: Delivering clear and effective communication to key stakeholders, including the Senior Set Builder, Studio Manager, and Production team. Keeping them updated on progress during the build process and contributing to production plans to ensure the timely and successful delivery of set builds and image shoots in line with the brief.
* Freelance talent management: Collaborating with the Senior Set Builder, Studio Manager to trial, supervise, train, and schedule freelance talent. Ensuring freelance team members are effectively managed, assigned tasks, and up to date with training on Health & Safety and workshop tools/equipment before use. Acting as a point of contact and role model for freelancers while providing regular briefings on any changes to the work schedule.
* Health & Safety: Responsible for upholding health and safety standards in the studio workshop, including monitoring trip hazards, sharp edges, and ensuring all sets comply with safety regulations to protect ITG employees, freelancers, and visitors. Additionally, responsible for providing health and safety training and conducting pre-project briefings for ITG employees and freelancers.
* Continued professional development: Attending training courses as needed to maintain proficiency in equipment use, and subsequently responsible for training and educating the broader team, including freelance set builders.
Requirements:
* Previous experience: in a Set Build/Studio Maintenance role.
* Be time aware: Be mindful of how you spend your time each day. Most of your time should be focused on delivering, and not spent chasing brief owners for clarity, or missing inputs or feedback.
* Have efficiencies front of mind: Always be looking for how we can work smarter, and more effectively together.
* Be commercially mindful: Treat every pound as if it were your own, and be thoughtful and responsible in your decision-making in order to drive savings.
