We are looking for an experienced, motivated, forward thinking, ODP/ Registered Nurse to work in our Surgical Theatres, Proton and Brachytherapy department. Our oncology theatre suite specialises in colorectal, plastic, urology and gynaecology, brachytherapy surgery, Robotic and a separate Proton treatment unit, which specialises in Paediatric anaesthesia.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will hold the appropriate qualifications to be a current registered practitioner (RGN or ODP) and demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development. You will be committed to delivering high quality care with a desire to further develop your career within this rewarding specialty. You will need to have very good communication skills, be highly motivated, organised and be able to work using your own initiative. Minimum 2 years Adult Anaesthetic and Recovery experience with Paediatric anaesthetic experience also desirable. Teaching and assessing skills are desirable. Ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills.
You will be required to work 37.5 hours, 4 or 5 days flexibly over 6 days (Monday to Saturday) with a commitment to out of hours on call.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To participate as a member of the Anaesthetic/Recovery Theatre team with extensive knowledge in the care of the peri-operative patient.
2. To demonstrate high standards of individual patient care with a commitment to the development of evidence based practice.
3. To competently care for the peri-operative patient including the assessment, planning and evaluation of programs of care.
4. Liase and integrate with the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring patients receive comprehensive care and promote a team approach to working.
5. Develop good working relationships and promote effective communication between all clinical grades of staff within the multi-disciplinary team.
6. Liase with the peri-operative teams to initiate and participate in the audit and evaluation of clinical practice and surgical products in the interest of promoting quality care.
7. Work with senior colleagues to formulate practice development strategies based on audit findings.
8. Encourage and participate in initiatives to enhance quality care.

CLINICAL GOVERNANCE, AUDIT, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
1. Work within trust guidelines, policies and standard operating procedures.
2. Utilise incident reporting system and participate in investigation of incidents.
3. Assist as required in departmental audit.
4. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others participate in the development of the same.
5. Continually monitor standards of care and participate in leading the improvement of care, through benchmarking, audit and research.
6. Support patient and public involvement activities in the theatre area as appropriate, leading to service improvement.
7. Ensure compliance with untoward incident reporting & near misses.
8. Promote peoples equality, diversity and rights Assist the Senior Theatre Sister and manager in the effective use and monitoring the quality of supplies / equipment.
FINANCE / PHYSICAL RESOURCES
1. Comply with best practice in the safe use of equipment by self and other members of the team, i.e. trainees / medical and nursing staff.
2. Assist the theatre manager to maintain theatre budgets and assist in cost saving projects.
