Job Description: Piping Design Engineer / PDMS Modeller Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Piping Design Engineer / PDMS Modeller with a solid background in refinery piping modelling, preparation of Material Requisitions (MRs), and an in-depth understanding of industrial standards and ASME codes (B36.1 & B36.3). Candidate will be responsible for the detailed design and modelling of piping systems for refinery projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and client specifications. Key Responsibilities: Piping Design & Modelling: Create and modify 3D piping models using PDMS (Plant Design Management System) software, ensuring accuracy, constructability, and compliance with client requirements. Develop and review detailed piping layouts, isometrics, and design drawings for refinery piping systems. Perform detailed routing and pipe sizing based on process design and flow requirements. Conduct clash detection and resolution within the 3D model to identify potential design conflicts before construction. Material Requisition (MR) Preparation: Prepare comprehensive Material Requisitions (MRs) for piping materials and associated equipment based on design specifications. Ensure the accuracy and completeness of MR documentation, including piping components such as valves, flanges, pipes, supports, and specialty items. Liaise with procurement teams to ensure timely sourcing of materials, minimizing project delays. Standards Compliance & Code Adherance; Ensure all piping designs and models comply with relevant codes, standards, and specifications, including ASME B36.1 and ASME B36.3 for pipe dimensions and schedules. Apply industry standards, such as ASME, API, and ANSI, to design and modelling activities, ensuring best practices are followed. Review design specifications and client requirements to ensure project specifications are met and integrated into the design. Coordination & Collaboration : Work closely with other engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and civil teams, to ensure integration of the piping system into the overall plant design. Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely project delivery and quality standards. Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and designers in modelling techniques, software usage, and best practices. Quality Assurance : Perform quality checks and design reviews to ensure accuracy and conformance to specifications. Participate in design review meetings, providing feedback and recommendations for improvements. Ensure that design and model changes are documented and tracked in accordance with project requirements. Qualifications & Experience : Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum of 5 years of experience in piping design and PDMS modelling within the refinery or oil & gas industry. Strong experience in creating and modifying 3D piping models using PDMS (or equivalent software such as AVEVA E3D, AutoCAD P&ID). In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with ASME B36.1 and ASME B36.3 piping standards. Knowledge of industrial standards (API, ANSI, ASME) and safety codes relevant to refinery and industrial piping design. Familiarity with creating and reviewing Material Requisitions (MRs) for piping materials and components. Experience with pipe stress analysis, design codes, and pressure rating systems is a plus. Proficient in using design and modelling software, including PDMS, AutoCAD, and other related tools. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. Skills : Proficiency in PDMS/AVEVA E3D or similar 3D modelling software. Strong understanding of refinery piping systems and associated components. Familiarity with pipe support design, fabrication, and installation. Ability to perform clash detection and resolution within 3D models. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related design tools. Desirable Attributes : Professional certifications (such as PMP, Piping Designer certification) would be an advantage. Experience with other design tools like AutoCAD, MicroStation, or PDS (Plant Design System) is a plus. Knowledge of construction and fabrication methods for piping systems in industrial settings. Candidates must be based in the UK within reasonable commuting distance from Leatherhead, Surrey and must be authorised to work in the UK without Sponsorship.
