The Specialist Safeguarding Midwife works as a member of the Trust’s Integrated Safeguarding Team (which supports all activities to ensure the Trust meets its safeguarding responsibilities). The Specialist Safeguarding Midwife supports all activities necessary to ensure that the maternity service meets its responsibilities to safeguard and protect babies, children and young people through advising and supporting clinicians, education and training.
Ensure that effective, timely communication both internally and externally, complements multidisciplinary/interagency working.
To provide specialist safeguarding advice, guidance and support to relevant staff within Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust (RCHT)
Ensure that there is appropriate pre-birth assessment and planning in order to safeguard children and vulnerable groups, with effective communication of recommendations of discharge arrangements for the newborn baby and family support.
To participate and support with child protection conferences and discussions as required and facilitate multi agency meetings in order to safeguard children.
Assist, develop and participate in the delivery of safeguarding training to meet all educational/training requirements.
In collaboration with the Named Midwife for Safeguarding, ensure that lessons learnt from serious case reviews and high level investigations are implemented within the Trust.
To provide one to one, group and ad hoc safeguarding supervision to maternity staff in accordance with the safeguarding supervision policy .
