The Opportunity
Stantec is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Principal Flood Modeller/Hydrologist to join our Hydrological Sciences team. Your location is not critical as we have numerous offices around the UK and currently work flexibly and collaboratively. With secured frameworks and numerous other workstreams, we have a growing pipeline of interesting opportunities. Our team currently services clients from the following sectors: the UK water industry, transport and energy infrastructure, minerals and waste, and property.
You would be required to work with the team and independently, where required, to deal with new enquiries from clients, develop fee proposals, set up and manage projects, deliver technical work and assist more junior staff in their work. Being organised and able to manage several projects simultaneously is essential. You must be able to collaborate with clients, local authorities, and other stakeholders - including undertaking site visits.
Typical work will involve:
1. Flood Risk Assessments and Flood Modelling (fluvial, pluvial and tidal)
2. Outline Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) design and/or detailed drainage design
3. Hydraulic modelling (1D, 2D, and 1D-2D) of rivers
4. Discharge impact assessments
5. Normal/low flow/water resources modelling and WINEP investigations
6. Natural Flood Management Investigations
7. FEH analyses
8. Surface water flood modelling (2D direct-rainfall)
9. Environmental Impact Assessments
10. Fluvial geomorphology audits
11. Hydromorphological impact assessments
12. Water Framework Directive assessments
13. Sediment transport assessments/modelling
14. Bespoke hydrological assessments
15. Hydrological monitoring
16. River restoration
17. Natural Flood Management
18. Discharge permit applications
About you
You will hold strong experience in Hydraulic Modelling software (e.g Flood Modeller Pro, ISIS - Tuflow, Estry - Tuflow, WinDes and Microdrainage) with extensive knowledge of hydrological assessments and flow estimation or other flow calculation methods. Experience with SuDS and surface/foul water drainage design alongside experience with hydrological EIA is also essential.
You will ideally hold a degree in Environmental Science and must hold a relevant master's degree through a separate or integrated course. For this position, you should be chartered with a relevant professional institution; however, we will consider and support individuals currently working towards obtaining chartership.
