Main duties of the job
1. Manages caseload on an ongoing basis including making modifications within prescribed parameters reporting back to the Consultant.
2. Autonomously performs specialist nurse procedures in line with Trust protocols and NMC guidance.
3. Provides advice in relation to the care of individual or groups of patients.
4. Responsible for the effective management of allocated resources.
5. Responsible for procurement and maintenance of physical assets and supplies for the service.
6. Demonstrates best practice and relevant knowledge of the NHS and modernisation agenda, seeking to develop the service as part of the professional team.
7. Contributes to the development of the corporate nursing strategy ensuring local action plans produced, implemented and evaluated.
8. Represents the Trust at external events, networking with professional colleagues to maximise the opportunities of promoting the Trust and benchmarking practice with peers.
9. Involvement in Clinical Audit:
10. 24 our GP notification audit.
11. 25 Appropriateness & timeliness of urgent suspect cancer referrals. Assist in the gathering of information for ongoing audit projects.
12. Ensuring that all patients have a key worker.
13. Co-ordination of patient's pathway.
14. Monitoring of MDT standards in conjunction with MDT co-ordinator.
15. Implementing evidence-based practice.
16. Request and track relevant investigations post MDT once appropriately trained to do so.
17. Develop nursing services within the team.

Job responsibilities
Knowledge of equipment and degree of accuracy.
Provide physical, psychological and social support for patients/clients diagnosed with An Upper GI condition.
Nurse led Upper GI clinic.
Participate/ organise meetings for Upper GI groups, to enhance the development of Upper GI conditions across Primary and Secondary health care.
Provide educational sessions to multi-disciplinary groups (Medical staff, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists, Occupational therapists and external interest groups).
Project management improved communication between primary and secondary care
Undertake clinical trials.

18. Relevant post registration experience, at Band 6 or above, in cancer/palliative care/gastroenterology.
19. Previous experience of working as a clinical nurse specialist.
20. Experience of teaching.
21. In-depth specialist experience.
22. Leadership and management experience.
23. Evidence of advance communication skills.
24. Ability to lead and influence change.
25. Post-basic qualification in cancer/palliative care/gastroenterology.
26. Evidence of continued professional development.
27. Advanced Communication Skills training or prepared to work towards.
28. Research qualification

30. Understanding of Cancer Support and it's role across the UK
31. Clinical Skills level 7.
