As Scotland’s largest and oldest Hospice, St Margaret of Scotland Hospice is a leading provider of specialist palliative care. We offer a holistic and interventionalist approach to patient care, delivering inpatient, outpatient, and community-based support to enhance the quality of life for individuals and their families. As part of Scotland’s integrated health and social care network, we work closely with NHS colleagues, primary care teams, and local authorities to ensure seamless, person-centred care. There is an existing active programme of undergraduate and postgraduate education in palliative care with the undergraduate education coordinated for the medical students through the University of Glasgow. The Hospice also has a formal teaching link with Glasgow Caledonian University - School of Health & Life Sciences. There is opportunity to further develop skills in conjunction with researchers and postgraduate teachers from the surrounding Universities. Candidates with appropriate academic track record will be eligible to apply for an Honorary Academic appointment with Glasgow University. As a Consultant in Palliative Medicine, you will play a pivotal role in delivering expert clinical leadership, supporting patients with complex palliative care needs, and contributing to service development. Your responsibilities will include: Providing specialist palliative care to patients within the inpatient unit, outpatient clinic and community settings. Leading and supporting a multidisciplinary team, including highly experienced medical, nursing and allied health professionals. Offering expert advice and support to primary and secondary care colleagues in symptom management and end-of-life care. Contributing to education and training for healthcare professionals, including medical students and trainees. Participating in clinical governance, service improvement initiatives, and strategic Hospice planning. We are looking for a dynamic and compassionate medical professional with: Full GMC registration and inclusion (or eligible for inclusion within 6 months of interview) on the Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine. A passion for delivering patient-centred, holistic palliative care in a Hospice setting. Excellent leadership, communication, and collaborative working skills. Experience in education, quality improvement and service development is desirable. Please note that St Margaret of Scotland Hospice does not hold a sponsorship licence and is therefore unable to accept sponsorship requests. The job is offered as a full-time post on a 10 PA basis (including up to 2 non-DCC) but applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full-time. This role includes participation in a shared on-call rota for specialist palliative care, ensuring comprehensive support for patients across Hospice and community settings.
