Job Title: Principal Engineer – Safety
Based in Frimley, Weymouth, Bristol, Portsmouth, or Plymouth, this role offers a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
The salary for this position is negotiable, depending on experience.
This role involves providing advice on product safety matters to project and engineering managers delivering programmes. You will ensure that safety considerations are correctly considered and implemented.
You will engage with third parties to review and gather supporting Design Safety Justification (DSJ) report evidence. This will involve developing safety arguments, both physical and functional, using appropriate safety analyses methods.
You will produce and update DSJs and safety management documentation using appropriate regulations and standards.
This role requires line managing other safety practitioners in your team.
To be successful in this role, you will need the following skills and experiences:
Essential:
* A degree-level qualification in a relevant STEM subject, such as Engineering, Physics, Maths, or Science.
* Broad knowledge of industry safety standards, including Def Stan 00-055 and 00-056, IEC 61508, or similar.
* Demonstrable experience in safety engineering activities in the defence, maritime, or a highly regulated domain.
Desirable:
* Good communication skills and ability to interact and manage stakeholders.

As part of the Safety & Environmental team, you will work alongside engineers and technical specialists to design, develop, integrate, manage, and support complex systems and combat sub-systems for in-service and future submarines.
